Will OSU go run heavy / a lot of QB runs with Reid and O’Toole likely being out?

They will try. They are averaging 3.4 yards per carry so I don’t think they will be successful. We are by far the best defense they have faced this year. It’s not logical to think their yards per carry will double vs us.

Yeah, I was trying to make sense of it myself. I get Reid missed last game with a sprained ankle, and O’Toole left USU due to an injury, and Whitt is super secretive about injuries, but I got no sense that either would miss OKST. And then add to it that Bowman is not a running QB….. I just didn’t get it.

      Bowman is not a runner

Gundy said in his press conference he’s encouraging Bowman to resist breaking out of the pocket, and that its working (vs Arkansas and Tulsa) resulting in more pass yardage (rather than scrambles that weren’t productive most of the time). So if that trend continues, I like the Utes’ chances as long as the secondary does well at coverage. Keep him in the pocket then just collapse the pocket to nothing or get the holding call.

their pass protections i very good. this will be the biggest key to the game.

According to Gundy’s presser, our defense will dictate their offense. If we stuff the run (maybe by adding a man in the box) they will throw it. Sounds obvious, but those were his words.
I think the bigger question is whether we can stop the run without stacking the box. We can’t have any missed tackles against.
