It seems to me that Utah basketball has an oh-fence problem pretty consistently since Larry showed up. I like dynamic oh-fence and his teams are hardly dynamic. They take forever to get a play to develop, and against a team like Cal in the Pac-12 Tourney this was particularly obvious. I’m speculating that it is a trust problem. He nonsensically trusts Kuzma to put up bad decision 3s and meanwhile Bealer and Johnson rode the bench when it just didn’t make sense against certain matchups. Frankly, it reminds me of how Tyrone Corbin coached the Jazz.
I feel like a good coach would have sat Kuzma down and said “Utilizing your length and vertical on defense to get blocks and on oh-fence passing out of the paint after demanding double teams is how you get to the NBA,” instead it’s like he told him that he should practice praying and spraying 3s. Kuzma will never be Korver. This seems obvious to me.
Am I taking crazy pills?
