I hate that we struggle to play well when we are the favorite. That attitude limits our ceiling. Urban Meyer took MCBRIDE’S guys and turned them into players with swagger who believed they were not underdogs. I believe that people can be a Ute fan and not be a fan of Whittingham. I am a Ute fan FIRST. I want a different attitude. I want an assassin attitude that plays to win and likes being the favorite. I want a Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant attitude. I am grateful for what Whitt has done, but I have been very, very, frustrated with the offense the entire time Whitt has been the coach. I watched too many games where Whitt played not to lose. That’s just not my style of football and I just don’t enjoy it. I have been a fan my whole life even through the terrible years before McBride, so I’m not an entitled fan that knows nothing but winning.

Agreed. Just look at Dan Lanning and Kirby Smart as examples. Those guys are absolute savages, they want to curb stomp every team they play. That’s what I’d like to see more of under Scalley. It’s just not who Whitt is.

Now that I’m 2 generations away for college kids I can see clearly that the younger generation can’t relate to me. As much as I loved and respected my grandparents I figured they were out of touch. Saban was an anomaly as he put players in the NFL and his age was overlooked. The most successful coaches in college and NFL are the younger 1 generation ( parents age). The older Ute hubbers know what I’m talking about.

Agree. Team first. Never got into being a fan of coaches or players. I find the KW fan hysteria interesting especially looking at KW’s win-loss record over time. Hard to let go of the 21/22 seasons. Easy to see why KW obsessed over Rising considering the two conference championships and Rose Bowl appearances in 21/22 seasons the pinnacle of KW’s success playing in the Rose Bowl. Interesting to look at KW compared to Ron McBride in conference games only below especially the last three years of coaching. I get there’s other factors in play. Excluded non-conference games.

      KW: P12/B12 conf games only
P12 2011-2024: 66-56 (added in projected 1-8 record for 2024) two conference championships. 2011-2014 record (first 4 years in P12): 14-22 . MWC: 35-13 one MWC conference championship

McBride: WAC and 4 years in MWC conf games only
      1990-2002: 63-41 (two conference championships)

KW last 3 years: zero bowl wins
13-14 (counting 1-8 this season) Sadly, doubtful Utah wins out from here.

McBride last 3 years: one bowl win
      10-11 (fired year 3)

Both KW, 7-2 and McBride, 5-2 (won conference championships the year before their three year slide.)

        So, basically the same…..

But against harder competition. So, edge to Whitt.
