Didn’t watch the game, ESPN radio this morning spent a segment on BYU being rated highly by Running up the score on bad teams. Did GYU really try a fake punt up 30 something in the second half? KSL is ecelebrating the play. What a great culture.

When it comes to playoff spots and New Years Day “Big Bowl” (whatever they are called) berths, they will put FAR more emphasis on good performances against strong opponents than blowouts over Sun Belt teams.

I didn’t watch the game either but running up the score is the only way they’ll even be considered for the playoff or even a NY6.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
Unless they get into a P5 conference, they will never be considered for a playoff. And given that they aren’t a part of a G5 league, they’re not an automatic bid for NY6 no matter highly ranked they are. If they beat Boise St., which I think they have a good chance of doing, we’ll see if the powers that be are ok with having two non P5 teams in NY6 bowls.

Here you go.
BYU was up 49-14 in the 4th when they ran this fake punt 😳 pic.twitter.com/wXbX2TCpyu

So, what’s the combined record of all the teams TDS has played this year. RUTS has and always will be the MO of their athletic programs.

Some context I learned on Twitter: Backup punter made a read on the play, it wasn’t called. 2nd string teams were in on both sides of the ball. Still, Sitake might have a decency rule for his team when up 49-14. How many times have you heard about Texas State before yesterday?
-
Warrior UteParticipant
I think the twitter account saying it wasn’t called is just trying to justify the fake punt. The way the blocking down field took place on the play made it look like a called fake punt to me. I am not an expert but watch the play from the twitter link yourself and see what you think.

Correct you are Warrior Ute! That Offensive Lineman wasn’t looking at getting downfield to cover the punt. He was looking for somebody to block. But how could he have known that their Punter was planning on running the fake unless it was called from the sideline? He never turned around to see that the Punter had pulled it down and was opted to run the ball. It was DEFINITELY a called play!

Me thinks Whitt will somehow use that play to fuel another beating the next time they play.

Me thinks he would NOT! He wouldn’t do anything to embarrass his good friend Sitake. And ESPECIALLY not while he was on the proverbial coaching hot seat. He’ll get a pass for this year’s season, as the tdS had — once again — duped their fanbase into believing theirs was a great performance, and that they’re a great team and all. But should he lose to BSU and/or SDSU, he might not escape the criticism that he’s been enduring from within his own fanbase all up until now. And there’s no defeat more severe than one vs. their hated big brother on the hill.
Whittingham showed no qualms about destroying mendenmidmajor, but he didn’t like him. Sitake? Different story.

All about s**tting on the Y but… Glass house? Wishnowsky did the same thing a few years ago when we were up by a billion on Arizona late in the 4th after a series that consisted of 3 dive plays. Every rugby style punt has blocking set up for a fake. The kicker is supposed to make a read. If you don’t call a traditional punt that is the risk.

bopahullParticipant
At least it was a better idea than the fake punt on 4th and 20 from their own endzone.

This could be the start of a new rivalry. Texas State will not forget soon!
