Last week, the NCAA unveiled to executives a new DI governance model granting power leagues more… power.
A formal split between the NCAA’s haves & have-nots has arrived: governance changes, athlete rev-share & postseason access.

The G5 should split off and form a playoff. It would be entertaining.

UtahParticipant
Honestly…I wouldn’t hate it if the P2 broke off and the rest of the teams formed their own playoff and Utah was in the rest of the teams group.
It would be college football again, and I miss that.

I’m with you, Utah. The thing that caught my eye toward the end of that article was the possibility of increasing the scholarship limit. This could be yet another blow to the non-P2 schools. The gap will continue to get wider between not only the P5 and G5 schools, but also between the P2 and Purgatory2. Limiting scholarships to 85 in 1992 enabled fringe teams to be a lot more competitive. We’ll see where this one goes. I swear, it’s almost like they are trying to drive fans away at this point.

That’s capitalism for you baby. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Gut everything today, for as much as you can. Tomorrow? Well, if it’s ruined, we will just move onto the next thing to gut.

This is such a dumb take, inserting a political comment into a subject that has absolutely zero to do with the economic well-being of anyone on this site. In case you don’t get it, all sports are is entertainment, not the bellwether of industrial development in this or any country. And if you have an issue with capitalism, feel free to hop on an airplane to the socialist paradises of Cuba and Venezuela…you know, the countries that have and continue to provide millions of undocumented immigrants rushing through our southern border.
-
UtahParticipant
Huh? This is such a weird response. It makes no sense.
Where did I say anything about the well being of anyone on this site? And yes, sports are entertainment, but as the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB have all learned, heavily regulated capitalism is best. Spread the money around. Create limits to how much you can earn. Limit how much a team can spend. Tax wealthy teams and give money to poorer teams. Create a minimum wage. Sports are an argument against republican policy.
College football, on the other hand, is bad capitalism. Let the rich get richer. Do not regulate them. Let Nebraska have 100+ paid players. Let the TV people kick Oregon State and WSU out. Who cares if rivalries fall apart, as long as we make money. Who cares if teams get left out, as long as we make money. Who cares if Utah has to go to Orlando or Stanford to Clemson. As long as the TV guy makes money.
And bringing up immigration and Cuba and Venezuela…those are three different topics. Come on man. Do better. Don’t be stereotypical republican who spouts nonsense.

Oh, so now there’s “good capitalism” and “bad capitalism”? I’m glad you were able to explain youself seeing as your original comment just mentioned capitalism writ-large. You know, the economic system that the entire developed world follows. Maybe you should elaborate better in your comments to pre-empt misunderstandings. Don’t be a a stereotypical liberal that’s hypocritical by nature. But if you’re not one of those, then I issue you a formal apology and will refrain to further comment on this thread.

The only problem with that scenario is Utah becomes a feeder school to the P2. Players like Devin Lloyd come here, develope then bail for more money and Utah is left looking to fill the holes.
-
UtahParticipant
Yup. And college football goes the way of basketball. No one cares until they can gamble on the playoffs.

Lord forbid we allow football outcomes similar to San Diego State or Butler in the hoops title game or Fresno State winning the baseball title.
