I think one of the issues that Sitake had with Bernard’s transfer earlier was that he could give too much insight into BYU’s scheme/gameplan against Utah.
I remember seeing that for a portion of that Utah v. BYU game, Bernard was on the BYU sideline with a headset on. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sitake has been trying to get Bernard to stay this entire time by making him feel like part of the team in that way. But perhaps if Bernard has persisted in his desire to leave the program, Sitake and the AD have finally conceded and will let him out of his BYU obligations. Then I think he could start next year for Utah.
I think this is possible because 1) Sitake is a good guy and 2) the Bernard versus the Honor Code office storyline has not gone away and I’ve heard rumblings that it is hurting BYU’s recruiting.
