Rumor from CB is that he is coming to Utah.  Anybody here know anything about it?  Our LB core would be shaping up quite nicely if it happens to be true.  I hate his actions and childish behavior, but I would have a hard time turning him away.

He’s enrolled in Summer classes…still has to reach certain academic and team requirements in order to play but this is the piece that gives us the depth and physicality we need to be special on D.

Been counting on this for a while but we now have the NFL body/speed and talent in the middle that can take the banging.  Our defensive unit just eliminated any real weakness.  We can now afford an injury across the board and not skip a beat.

Deepest LB group we’ve had maybe ever…Bernard is an NFL talent without question.

How many years does he have to play? 1 or 2?

He has 2 years to play however if he plays well don’t be surprised if he tries to leave after this year. Going pro would take some of the financial stress off of his family which is a significant challenge today.  Not that it’s automatic…many factors go into whether or not he is ready or even capable but if all goes well he’ll probably jump.

Assuming he does qualify and play, I have it as Hansen, Thompson, Barton, and Bernard as our LB corps. Is there anyone else that we should expect to contribute at the position? What about guys like Lloyd?

Lloyd is coming along.  Had a much improved Fall and is plenty athletic.  He’ll play some and its probably perfect that he’s not thrown into the fire quite yet.  Not ready mentally to have a big role but by next year will be.  Karsten Llilenquist is physicsl and adds depth as well.  We have 6 that are actually capable now.  That number has been 4 the last few years

Originally I spoke against adding him. If Whitt has him on a program as long as he sticks to it I am not worried.

I was a fan of adding Carrington but I wasn’t going to be surprised if he screwed up again is all.  Whitt never could get Gordon on the field so he isn’t perfect when it comes to projects.

@OnlyU. What about Pirtle ? Is he going to factor in the mix ? Will he be here for fall ?

He’s on track to graduate and the plan is for him be here in the fall.

Dont be surprised if he plays DE this fall.

High hopes for Pirtle but with the Jordan injury, the Bernard addition, etc. like “Utah” says, he’ll most likely end up at DE.  Something else would have to happen for him to end up at LB.  That’s all assuming he comes in ready to compete and is able to grasp that technique and responsibility.  He’s done it before so no one thinks it will be an issue.

Blair is progressing nicely.  Held out of all contact and limited, controlled movement in the Spring but no set backs.  The true test will be how quickly he’s able to go multiple days in a row without soreness/weakness getting the better of him.

Sorry for the 20 questions OnlyU, but how have the mission guys been trending? I’m thinking of Hubert, Fabrizio, etc? They may not be even be back yet, I just remember we had some decent guess returning.

Fabrizio’s back and was around during Spring…trying the switch to LB and as long as that sticks will be in the mix with Thompson, Lloyd, Bernard (maybe) and Sione Lund next year (unless he gets a waiver) but I think will play special teams this year.

Covey obviously will fit somewhere and have a big impact.

Fotheringham will take some time to get back in the mix, Hubert is intriguing because he’s similar to Covey in that he just makes plays.  Crowded back there at Saftey though so might take him a year.

Goku Pututau got back last week as well and he could have an impact right away.

With the experience and depth we have coming in I’d say probably Covey and maybe Pututau with starters reps.  The rest probably involved on special teams.
