I’m an Indiana Pacers fan for some reason (Reggie and Rik in NBA Jam were a great duo). I just looked at their box score. They are getting their butts kicked by the Lebron/Luka-less lakers.

Why do I bring this up as a Ute basketball post? Because the Pacers are currently 30/31 AS A TEAM from the free throw line.

SMH, do better Utes. You can do much much better.

That’s part of the Utah MBB head coach responsibility and what he has been getting paid to do for about four years now

In the womens game yesterday, UCF went like 11/12 and Utah went 15/18, but 2 of those 3 misses was by Nene Sow who played a total of maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Without her, they went 13/14. Now they get the advantage of a smaller ball but still — at one point during the mens Colorado game, Utah was 1/9. That’s 12.5 percent from the line. I know it ended up near 50 percent but in no world, especially where the scrubs aren’t playing should a D1 P4 basketball team be 1/9 in free throws.

I’ll bet over the course of the season the women are hitting 10 percent or more free throws. The men are painful to watch from the line. I have confidence in Gabe and Hunter and that’s about it. It’s not dumb to play hack a shack in a close game with our big men — Keller, Lovering, Ausar, Wahlin. Lohner wouldn’t be in the game at that point.

Currently, the Women’s team is shooting 75.3% for the season.

Starters are shooting 78.9%, which is impressive, given that Jenna Johnson and Maye Toure have shot 55% and 63%, respectively.

Jeez, I didn’t realize Jenna was that bad!

It’s surprising, given her overall play. Oddly, her FT% has dropped every year (75, 73, 67, 55).

I wondered at the time if her missing those two free throws against LSU her sophomore year would mess with her confidence. Maybe it did with the 5% drop, but the 12% drop this year is something else.
