I have lived in Utah for 3 years, but had’t been to a game for either team in person, but figured it’d be fun to go to the first Holy War since moving here. The environment was electric and the stadium really gets buzzing despite a small stadium (No Death Valley though), I follow both teams a decent amount and watch games when I can, and this looked like BYU’s worst game of the year, the stadium really messed with their offense. Utah on the other hand looked like a competent team that spent the bye week well and was ready to play their best football and did in the 2nd qtr. Emotions were obviously high for both sides, and both sides played their hearts out. Utes should be proud of how their team played, even if it didn’t end in their favor. As far as controversial calls go, the holding was pretty obvious to me, and could’ve been avoided if Utah wasn’t pressing on 4th and 10. Utah really should’ve won this game and looked in control for most of it, but it wasn’t the refs’ fault imo, they just saw a hold on the most critical down of the game and called it. Both sides were chippy, physical, and held all night and didn’t get called for it, but considering that was Retzlaff’s read on the play, and the wr would’ve had separation if not for the hold, it seems like the right call. Utah fans were much classier in the stadium that expected, obviously some exceptions as there is in every fan base, but I was overall very impressed with the event aside from the trash throw and comments made at the end. Not sure what has happened to Utah this season, but they showed more life in this game. From one of the biggest SEC fans, BYU is having a special season and keeps finding ways to win. Seems like a season of destiny, and if they keep finding ways to win they’ll be dangerous in the CFP. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way, and again, thanks for the awesome experience at the game.

You obviously have a soft spot for BYU in your heart. Nothing wrong with that unless you’re trying to pass yourself off as an unbiased observer. The tell for me is when you said that BYU has the potential to be dangerous in the CFP. You do realize that BYU needed outrageous good fortune to barely beat the worst two teams in the Big XII, right? Let’s see how they do versus a resurgent Kansas and away to Arizona State before even contemplating the CFP.

“Season of destiny”?
Might as well reference 1984….

Yeah, my BS signal was pinging hard when I read that as well. Another tell…

That phrase proves he’s been around the rivalry since Bronco’s time. He might be telling the truth about living in Utah for 3 years, but he’s clearly been a byu fan for far longer.

It’s weird how often BYU fans name themselves their first name online with an entire language full of possibilities. Matt, Dallin, you guys want to weigh in? I’m sure this is all just some coincidence though… we just happened to encounter several similarly and terminally uncreative people that have an opinion on how Utah’s program is run during the week of the BYU game.

I have heard a couple of BYU fans I know use the phrase “Season of Destiny” for BYU’s season. They haven’t liked when I asked them how BYU will do against Georgia in the CFP.

These things they come up with, like “Quest for Perfection” are so cringe. God I miss not being in a conference with them.

You’re on fire this morning Tony.
I need to request the ability to upvote more than once for a limited time. You’ve had a couple that deserve OnlyU level approval

First, we all know you’re a byu fan. You couldn’t have made that more clear. Maybe you’re also an lsu fan. How does it make you feel that your best QB in a long time was below average while playing against the Utes and publicly stated he hated playing the Utes more than anyone?

As far as ‘season of destiny” (and 1984) goes.
They keep on winning, BYU won’t face a 6-5 Michigan team for the title, but will face the likes of Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, etc. and need to beat several of them to lift the trophy. That will show how good they really are. (Glad they fixed that, was rather unhappy our 2004 team ended up against Pitt).
To any BYU supporters following this thread, a sincere congratulations on your season so far as you’ve had some tough seasons in recent years. But you’re heading into some show downs against some very strong competition.

Winning solves everything. They win, they prove it.

I mean, I’d tag myself as a secondary fan for BYU and Utah, I’m more a BYU fan this season because of their success, but really they’ve just been fun to watch and I love college football. The commentators have used season of destiny, like in the OkSt game, I really don’t know BYU’s history but Retzlaff is much better this year than last, and they just keep finding ways to win. Miami just ran out of magic and has been a dangerous team as well, but they’ve showed they’re beatable now. Being undefeated is very impressive, even if you barely beat two bad team, because some good teams drop games vs good team, like Alabama. BYU did struggle with Utah, but again I think Utah played one of their best games, and they have talent and looked more cohesive than earlier in the season. Plus, rivalries are weird. Currently BYU would match up with BSU or Penn State which haven’t prove that much, although Jeanty is a freak. If they played Georgia or Alabama (etc) it just depends if they play the team that finds ways to win, or the version that showed up in their losses.

Hey lil bro, you don’t need to explain yourself. Your comments made it obvious that you’re a BYU fan masquerading as something else.

I also think it’s funny you guys are saying I’m a BYU fan as an insult or way to invalidate my opinion. It looks like you guys have about 10-15 active people on this board and if they have a different opinion they’re a BYU fan and you don’t care what they have to say. If you don’t want people with other opinions just make a group chat or something. I’m a fan of good teams, and BYU has been good this season, last year and 22′ I was cheering for the U like crazy, even though you fell apart down the stretch last year. I don’t love either of the universities, but BYU has had some last second wins that are miraculous, even if you don’t think the competition is good. Winning in football is hard and BYU has done a lot of that this year, sorry. I’ll try not to respond to anything, as that might upset the loyalist of this board, and not coincide with the required hate for BYU.

“I’m a fan of good teams”
So you’re a self proclaimed bandwagon? That’s worse than just admitting to being a byu fan.-
The Miami UteParticipant
Kind of reminds me of my little brother…when we were growing up, he’d have a different favorite football team every NFL season…it all depended on the record…

It’s the timing. Your first post was at the same time we had a bunch of new accounts whose only intent was to rub the loss in. If you don’t fit into that mold, keep posting and you’ll eventually earn acceptance just like Jim McMahon, Ted Lasso and even Matt have. I’m sure I’m missing a couple.
Matt also came in strong with the rhetoric but once he started talking to us as football fans who happened to favor Utah instead of as Yewts (my phrase not his) who were just here for his amusement he’s been a valuable voice to the conversation. Just like in life, you will determine your relationship with everyone on here. At the end of the day, all we can ask is honesty. We don’t have to agree with you but we’ll respect your viewpoint as long as you don’t try to hide the origin.

If you don’t understand how calling you a BYU fan is a valid insult there’s not much we can do for you. Do you even remotely understand the matchup you’re talking about? Have you seen the way BYU fans speak to others? And if you’re a fan of good teams why the hell were you cheering for Utah last year? When will you say something that makes sense?

Utah may have a smaller stadium but we at least have paragraphs in long form writing.
