“According to a source close to Cam Calhoun’s situation, he was offered “nearly double” to enter the transfer portal before Tuesday. Calhoun then approached Utes multiple times to raise their offer, but they wouldn’t budge on a new financial package.”
Literally days before he was recruiting guys to Utah and hyping up the guys who were posting about coming back.

This is modern CFB. It sucks. We needs a few billionaire funders.

It’s also bad business move. We all know Utah develops DBs as good as any anyone. He’d make ten times the bag being thrown at him with the nfl contract he’ll get with the development from Shaw and Scalley. shortsighted decision

This is the problem with Utah. We don’t have any big boosters now that can compete with all the other money being thrown around. The only way BYU would be able to double the offer (and I’m not saying they doubled it) would be them getting backing from those that are funding their bball team.
And we won’t be able to compete with any of the other blue-bloods, obviously. Not sure how we are supposed to keep up in this world of NIL without a deep pocket donor/booster.

It can’t be done. Only a handful of schools can survive this.

Maybe whit should be paying him outa his own pocket, cause he sure didn’t earn his contract last season.

Maybe Whitt is playing 4D chess and is only coming back so he can donate a lot of Money once he’s officially retired😃

It’s boosters and byu recruiting him.
They are actively recruiting Utah’s best players.
Smith Snowden has been offered by byu. The Fano brothers have both been offered by BYU
They are willing to over pay to get good players and destroy Utah at the same time.

This exactly.
It’s not just about plugging holes and weaknesses, when you can slit the throat of your rival in the process, you do it.
They could have offered any other players in the country, they are targeting Utah.
And this has always been Whitt’s blind spot, Kilani and Hill are not your friends, stop playing nice!!!! Run up the score, humiliate teams and destroy their will. People do it to you all the time, so why the conservative play calling to just escape with small victories?

I really wish tech bro would focus his financial efforts on his terrible nba team and so far somewhat promising but still not great nhl team.

Replaceable. Calhoun still has a lot of work to do to be NFL ready. Basically signed up for the Utah DB training camp and bailed for the bag. Until there’s contracts, programs at different levels are the training ground for Billionaire programs. The these are “just kids” nonsense needs to stop. KW and the other whiney, overpaid coaches complaining about NIL need to STFU. KW still getting paid his big contract after two years of rookie coach mistakes and program mismanagement. Two years of a combined 9-11 losing conference record is unacceptable especially during these critical times of conference transition.
