It’s on FOX and it starts at 10AM local time. Just another example of the bulls**t that’s overtaken college sports since they started taking the networks’ money on a massive scale.

HoosierUteParticipant
that’s prime ncaaf watching time noon kickoffs are way better than 2am finishes out here in the eastern time zone
-
The Miami UteParticipant
My point is that it’s an artificial kick-off time purely dictated by the networks. I can guarantee you that neither the players nor the coaching staff nor the fans were consulted. It’s another crystal clear case of the tail wagging the dog.

HoosierUteParticipant
sorry to break it to you but the players/coaches/fans are never asked when they would like to have kickoff. The networks, who fund the sport, set the kickoff times. It’s been this way for a long time.

Yep, even in the 80s. Few games were nationally televised back then, but if they were, tv dictated the kickoff time. I had season tickets in newly expanded Cougar Stadium in 1982 and for years the games started at 1:30 pm. Then later in the early 90s they moved it to Noon. Night games were rare for BYU.
I remember Utah playing quite a few night games through mid to late october. But tv didn’t dictate things back then. If you want the huge money payouts from being in a big boy conference, you have to put up with this.
I myself now prefer the 8:15 pm kickoff times. For one, we seem to play better late at night, and two, I can watch all the other great games earlier in the day and get some yard and housework done earlier in the day.

The Miami UteParticipant
You’re not breaking anything to me. All I’m saying is that it’s highly unusual to play a game at 10 AM and the only reason that’s happening, is because the networks are setting kickoff times by fiat.
-
HoosierUteParticipant
i’m not sure why this is the hill you are dying on. There are tons of games in that time slot every week. Fox makes a big deal out of Big Noon Kickoff. Being in big fox nationally televised at noon is actually pretty awesome.

2008 National ChampParticipant
in what time zone are the bulk of those numerous games being played?
Based on yesterday’s games, the home teams for the 12pm ET kickoffs were:
Georgia Tech
Boston College
Rutgers
Ohio State
Texas
Cincinatti
Louisiana Monroe
South Florida
Middle Tennessee
Alabama Birmingham
Southern Mississippilots of Mountain or Pacific in there.,,

The Miami UteParticipant
Exactly…can anyone remember a time where Utah kicked off so early in the day?
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
I think the Cal game last year was the early kickoff and Utah fans were up in arms. I liked it because I was able to watch the game and then get on with my day instead of something like last night where I got bored watching the clock hoping 8:15 would finally get here. But I’m also watching from my recliner so I don’t have a couple of hours of tailgating to make it an event.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
No, that was a 1PM local kickoff…The last Colorado vs Utah game in Boulder started at 12PM as well.

Are you familiar with the concept of times zones and that 12PM on the East Coast isn’t the same everywhere in the country? I don’t know why it’s so hard for you to understand that a football game starting at 9 or 10 AM on a Saturday is something out of the mainstream.

Yet byu fans say that they have a national following and last night’s game was on ESPN after dark. I would rather watch the earlier game and have the rest of the day free. But I have lost interest with college football because of nil and conference realignment. Being in the Big12 with byu sucks.
