ParticipantWill Gary Anderson ever be an assistant at Utah again?
It seems that he has a bad rep in coaching circles right now. I liked him as an assistant at Utah, but do we want the baggage he carries? I know coach Mac maintains a close relationship with him and I wouldn’t be surprised that he and Kyle are still close.
Thoughts?

Participant.. more than meets the eyes with GA ; whatever his issues are , I’ve always liked him at Utah.

ParticipantDidn’t know the Utes were in the market…

ParticipantI don’t believe there is an opening right now. I was just asking if people thought that GA would ever be an assistant at Utah again.

ParticipantMaybe in a John Pease capacity to mentor and bridge the gap for a coordinator that isn’t quite ready to take the reigns. But, I doubt it.

ParticipantJohn Pease was a huge loss when he’d opted to retire. We were lucky to have ever had him.

ParticipantNo doubt. That guy has forgotten more about defensive football than the members of this board know. His schemes in 2015 were spectacular.

ParticipantI’m just gonna flat out say not while KW is head coach. He has proven himself to be a flake. Even if he and Kyle are buddies, I think Kyle would decline at this point. Too many other fish in the sea.

ParticipantI agree. Gary has some serious problems and who knows if he will ever be like he was before.

ParticipantI agree that Gary likely has some stuff to work out. I’ve met him a couple times, most recently at a Logan coaches show. He didn’t seem himself.
but I doubt Kyle feels hard done by Gary leaving to take the Utah State job and I bet he’d take a close look at Gary if an opening popped up.

ParticipantThe one time I met him in person, his nose was ruddy as hell. To me, that could be a sign of an alcohol problem, but who knows?

KeymasterI hope not.

ParticipantI wouldn’t mind having him (or Dennis Erickson) back at Utah — just so long as we don’t have to fire anyone to make room.

ParticipantHe is a good coach but not a good head coach. If Kyle takes him back Gary needs to fulfill his contract.

ParticipantWhy on God’s earth would we do that?

ParticipantEver watch Gary Anderson on “The Drive”, those documentary episodes on the pac-12 network? That guy was pretty full of himself.
