What’s 5 positives you can think of for 2025? I realize so much can change with what Whitt decides, the portal impact, etc. Just curious what everyone else is grasping onto currently cause I need some good vibes for Utah football reeeeally bad. 😎 ☀️

OnlyuParticipant
Really hard to say based on what might transpire this offseason. Does Whitt stick around? Who is the OC? Who are the portal additions and subtractions, etc. Rebuild/Reset?
All I’m certain of today is that the Offensive line should be really, really good provided they all return.
TE’s will be good.
Defense should also be really good with the youth and experience coming back.
Too many unknowns to say anything about the rest as it stands today.

Honestly, I can’t hear that offensive line noise. That group has severely underperformed this year. Seems like every year we are hearing how amazing that group is just to be let down by that actual product on the field. Would love to be wrong but I can’t fall for the false hype anymore.

Great to hear from you, @OnlyU!

I would think Utah will be a desired destination for portal RBs given our history and opportunity. I was wondering if Andrews is now preserving a RS year or if he is close to seeing reps. I would be shocked if we don’t have some very interesting new options for RB next year.
I expect that WR is a rebuild and will completely be a function of what the new OC does but this group along with QBs will be defined by portal players. Hopefully the OC selection is well under way, will be known very quickly at season end, and is everything as it relates to the offense.
The defense is very much coming along with younger players but goodness I wish Junior was a junior.

In the NIL world we now live in, not a single person can definitely answer this question for any team lmao
-
AnferneeParticipant
I realize that. The slow bleed out of this season is excruciating and so I was just curious what people would say.

The good thing is that the lion’s share of Utah’s current NIL will be freed by the subtraction of Rising and Kuithe. For example, Rising made $1M in 2023 and something similar this season (he had the potential to make over $1.5M had he stayed healthy). Kuithe’s NIL this season was $421K. I found both of these figures just doing a cursory internet search. Both of those amounts aren’t chump change and should attract top prospects (but will they be the right ones?).

That’s crazy to think that TSPP is floating $3M+ for a basketball player and Cam was $1.5M
What a world….

The Miami UteParticipant
It’s not my money, but I think it’s a massive mistake to give that kind of cash to an 18 year old freshman. I mean, how many times have we seen 5 star recruits in both football and basketball do absolutely nothing in their first year in college? It happens like clockwork. It would be funny as s**t if this dude goes to BYU and then zilch…betcha if that happens BYU’s NIL strategy gets a complete refresh.

I think every team should study how they are doing it at Pitt. You get possibilities (maybe some baseline assurance) but not paid until the end of the season. At least that’s how I understand it. Keeps you hungry. Not totally incentive based, but does ensure those that should contribute, contribute and surprises get a piece as well.

I thought Cam was closer to 2 million but I don’t have any facts to back it up.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Whatever the case Tony, that’s crazy money for a guy that hardly played. Think of what Utah could have done with that cash if they would have moved on from him after the 2023 Rose Bowl.

TrailgoatParticipant
I rationalize it as CR got paid out for the 21-22 seasons. The injury misinformation by Rising corp, local media, and KW is what is.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
That’s the truth of endorsements. You are compensated for what you have already done in the hope that you will be able to replicate or exceed it moving forward and someone can capitalize on your exposure.
At this point, investing any money in Rising is like those 10 year contracts they give to baseball players in their 30’s. You know it’s going to be a drag on the team over the life and you are just hoping to get enough return on the front end that you can write off the years of losses.

who knows. For me, it’s hard to distinguish between valuation and what they might actually be getting

We are assuming the donors will give the same money. Rising gave us a chance at the CFP and had name recognition.

Maybe we give two qbs 500k+ ? We’re down to our fifth string two years in a row.
-
DataUteParticipant
officially, we are on qb2 and qb5 left.

-
AnferneeParticipant
I don’t think even Mother Teresa could find any positives as it currently stands for next year.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
wanna bet? 11-30-24 is the over/under for positive spins of the 2024 debacle to start being applied to the soon to be expected playoff run in 2025.
I saw a couple of trial balloons being floated over the last week but no one has officially broken the seal yet.
-
-
RUUTESParticipant
The only positive is there are only 2 games left. I’d be even more positive if it were just over at this point.
