ParticipantThis was posted today:
Proverbs 16:18:
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”The arrogance coming from Utah fans is insane, so get ready for the destruction.
I am only one Ute fan, but I am not predicting an undefeated season or a national championship. I am waiting to see what we have once we take the field. I think we have the potential to have a good season. I do not believe we have the experience to be as good as 2019, but that’s just me. I assume that the arrogance this poster references is the confidence most Utes have about beating the Cougs.
In all honesty, I know what it feels like to be dominated by our rival year after year as was the case in the 70s and 80s for us. It did not feel good and I learned to despise the arrogance of these guys. They rubbed it in every chance they had. So, I understand how they must feel today. By the way, I never bring up the game with my BYU friends after they lost unless they choose to bring it up. Just because they were jerks back then doesn’t have to make me a jerk today.

ParticipantThe Lavell years were a huge outlier and the program reverted to the mean. They are 6-4 vs Utah State since 2010 and 0-9 vs. Utah. They won 5 times since 2000–that includes the end of the McBride era. Who cares if they think Utah fans are arrogant. They still think they’re equal. Who is arrogant?
They are one of maybe four or five mulligans on the schedule. BYU is a tuneup game. Frankly if Utah loses, we have much bigger issues.

ParticipantZoobs have shown us that sometimes pride remaineth after the fall.

ParticipantFor most though it’s not even that serious. It’s mostly Uncle Rico (back in 84…).

ParticipantCorrect you are CincyUte. Somehow, despite losing 9 in a row, they haven’t to the conclusion that the reason why Utah always wins, is because have the superior athletes and coaching staff. Nope. They’d concluded that all their “2-star” athletes taking the field notwithstanding, their losses are due to a “mental block”.
Pride remaineth indeed.

ParticipantIt would be nice to see the post he was referring to in his comments. Honestly, when we play BYU I never feel confident we will always dominate. 2018 was a great example, the first three quarters were absolute s**t. I get it, yes the last 18 min were all Utah needed to win but you replay that 18 minutes again and what are the chances Utah pulls out a W. Statistically it is very hard to come back from that large of a deficit.
I feel confident the team will win but I’d never be arrogant or c**ky about it. I’ve learned to never under estimate the Y. This is their bowl game and they come ready to play. They will pull a W at some point regardless of talent. 2018 is a testament of what they are capable of, even if it was only for the first 3 quarters.
