Because Huntley got injured, he is now pulling the “I told you so” card. He says it was a normal sack. I disagree, Huntley was running, tackled from behind and landed poorly on his shoulder. Many if not most would have been injured. It had nothing to do with his size. Fitts has been hurt two weeks in a row. Was it because he is too small? What about Anae?
Gunther is a “know it all” that never wants to be wrong. He is p**sed about the change in OCs and he was shocked when they named Huntley the starter. Since this went against everything he had said and promoted, he had no choice but to attack Taylor and KW for making such a stupid decision. Then when Huntley got hurt he goes to “I told you so.”
KW has been coaching football for 30 years and knows a bit more about players, strength, stamina, etc. than Gunther will ever know. I hate know-it-alls like Gunther.
Kyle, Taylor is our OC and Huntley was named the starter because he is our best option. Get over it!!! Admit that you were wrong and that Huntley has more skills than Williams.
As for me, I am a fan of whoever starts next Saturday. I hope Huntley is ready to go because he gives us more options. But, if we go with Williams – he has a lot of good experience and that is better than bringing in some redshirt freshman who has never played a down of D1 football before. I am sure that Taylor is working up a good gameplan to utilize Williams’ strengths.
Go Utes!!!

Who is Gunther? A twitter troll?

Kyle Gunther is on ESPN 700 radio. He is a former Ute player from about 2007.

He still has a radio job in Utah? I’m surprised. Last time I heard Gunther he came across as trying not to be a Ute ‘homer’ that it almost sounds as being anti-Utah. Don’t waste your time.

I really try to listen to him because I should like him right? I should support him. But Gunther and Hackett are just not easy to listen to. Hackett talks so oddly for an Aussie I think he purposely slow downs it makes him sound ADD. Most Aussies talk pretty smooth.
Gunther I think was burned by Whitt and firing Arod his last insider was probably the final straw.

I really don’t care what his opinions are about Utah football. I hate him because he never has any insight, tries to be a comedian and fails miserably, constantly talks about how Republican he is because his dad voted for Reagan, and says things like “holly Sacajawea!”
He’s so bad that I’ve started listening to 1280 on my drive home. Yup, Gordon Monson is less annoying than Gunther.

700 was a good option for drive time ute sports talk, now it sucks and I don’t listen anymore. Truly horrible radio!!

Not only are they anoying to listen to, but they use those stupid sound effects. I was listening yesterday and almost shut it off because I couldn’t handle the noises they kept inserting into their conversation. So damn annoying, almost as bad as listening to a Coog talk about thier moral victories.

After suffering through yet another awful segment this afternoon, I finally broke down and sent a message over to KALL700 tonight. Doubt it’ll have any effect, but wanted to at least let them know one random dude’s opinion.
Hey KALL700,
Lifelong Ute fan here. Felt like I needed to write in and let you guys know a few thoughts on Gunther and Hackett in the afternoons.
I love what they both did on the field for the Utes, and was hopeful that their show would be a hit. Unfortunately, as radio hosts, they fall woefully short. They provide very little insight, they’re not particularly funny, they spend as much time talking about their private lives as they do sports, Gunther’s whole “real ‘Murican” shtick has worn very thin, and, frankly, they’re just not entertaining or interesting at all. Tom seems like a nice guy, but doesn’t know enough about sports overall to bring much to the table. And honestly, Gunther just kinda comes across as a know-it-all jerk.
I used to be a regular afternoon listener, but I have stopped tuning in to 700 at all in the afternoons anymore. Maybe there’s a specific demographic that these guys are popular with, but everyone I’ve talked to rates them a ‘meh’ at best, and unlistenable at worst. (Side note: You should really look at using Ben Anderson full time…he’s fantastic.)
I know anecdotal evidence means little, but felt like I needed to give my $.02.
Thanks,
SkinyUte -

The problem with Gunther and Hackett is that neither of them want to play the straight man. They both Wang to yuck it up. To have a successful duo like this one should be the deep insight guy and the other the joker. This duo could work if say Anderson, like Skiny ute said, came in as the lead man/straight man.
