I honestly think part of the reason Harlan was so over the top in his reaction to the game (both the press conference statement and running out on to the field in the middle of the last play of the game) was to show Whitt he was taking his side. Whitt was in the refs face after the game, as p**sed off as I can ever remember seeing him. And I think Harlan decided to back Kyle in dramatic fashion. Just my opinion but to me that solidifies there is no chance Harlan fires Kyle. If he leaves it’ll be on his own terms. In this day and age there shouldn’t be enough built-in equity for a coach to be excused for so many fireable offenses which I’m not going to re-hash in this post.
Harlan is not going to fire Whitt because then Utah would be on the hook for a massive buyout. It’s the same reason why Lincoln Riley still has a job at USC.
So it’s a fine-able offense to criticize paid officials for making a highly questionable call that literally un-ended a game? This isn’t little league. Why are these people above reproach? I don’t get it.
Phil Jackson made his living on getting in ref’s heads but college umps are beyond reproach? I’d love to see a side by side of how the Arizona DB’s played Utah and that holding call.
That particular game versus Arizona was just ridiculous…I mean, it was like watching the 70s Oakland Raiders with Wille Brown, Jack Tatum and George Atkinson playing “bump and run” and molesting receivers throughout their route…
