If it’s true (some have said this) that he’s not significantly involved in choosing the next hiring, how unprecedented is that? He’s literally the Athletic Director.

That mean he’s going to get canned too? Weird.

How do we know he’s not involved in the hiring process?

Actually, I just saw that Rick on here posted “A few key trustees are playing a role in the hire as is President Randall. Harlan is leading the search but the trustees and president’s office are significantly involved this go around. A few of the trustees, of course, have direct ties to significant donors. The U has to get this right in order to bring the right people back to the table for both NIL dollars and possible future renovation/construction of basketball facilities.” So never mind.

I’m glad Afernee posted this. I read somewhere online that the UofU president and top donors are taking the lead on the hiring of the next MBB coach and that Harlan is not involved. That post was a few days ago and I can’t find it now. Makes me wonder the validity of that post, or was it just clickbait?! Either way, Harlan on very tight short leash and on a really really HOT hotseat. If its not Alex Jensen, Andre Miller or Bryant, the backlash against Harlan will be immense.

President’s and donors are always highly involved in things like this. Doesn’t mean Harlan isn’t heavily involved.

Don’t think for a moment that the president of other schools end significant donors aren’t involved and that this is unique to Utah. I guarantee when THE TDS made their recent basketball hire they were involved. I guarantee when THEM hired Mark Pope from THE TDS last year that their president and significant donors were involved, even though he was a legacy hire for them, similar to what Alex Jensen coming home to Utah will be.

I don’t get all the hate slung at Harlan, just as I don’t get all of the hate slung at local sports media.

          Strange!
