I don’t know what all goes on when these announcements are made, but I would think Scalley had to be part of discussions. He had to agree that he wasn’t going to look for another HC job, or even a higher paying DC job.

There had to be a time line involved, where Scalley agreed to stay on, to get the job eventually, and have a smooth transition for recruiting, etc..

But if I were Scalley, there had to be a limit established, like one year, before he was named HC. Any thing else and he could have entertained offers over two, three, whatever years before Whit called it quits. Also, because of events like the OC leaving and a new one needing to be hired, has muddied the waters, and if anything makes it more likely that Scalley wants to be the HC that hires the nest OC.

If Scalley isn’t named HC soon, I think it is a bad vibe for him to suffer through another year, with the Offense rebuilding, and the Defense being worn out by very low time of possession.

Or maybe he loves playing for Whit, loves being a Ute, loves the fact he can raise his family in one place and is happy to wait it out?

The contract had stipulations built in for when Whitt retires and what Scalley’s salary could be accordingly. It went 5 years out.

So he must have had some input but there must have been some open ended nature and he agreed.

Yeah, there were plenty of reports about his contract going up something like 100k per season, he waits.

        Here is the summary…

The contract includes a starting salary for Scalley of at least $5 million per year if he’s elevated at the end of the 2024 season, per the contract. That number increases by $100,000 each subsequent year, topping out at $5.4 million after Jan. 16, 2028.Jul 1, 2024

Thanks for the link. Have to admit I didn’t read all the details before. Scalley must be a very patient guy to agree on a possible wait time of several seasons.
