InactiveSo Utah is trying to milk the clock against Cal and not allow them to get the ball back correct? Wouldn’t the same be true against USC? Sometimes I wonder about our offensive play calling. Because if you remember correctly against USC after the punt Utah takes multiple downfield shots to take the lead in the game quick. Despite being gashed for big plays all game against USC. Against Cal it was all ball control the whole game. Just kind of wondering why the differences were finally realized a week later.

InactiveI’m with you on this. The urgency to get in her….I mean the end zone was lost with the clock burn slow down, lost TO, etc. It was like cold water was thrown on the team. I’d rather see the urgency level maintained and the job of penetrating the end zone finished.

InactiveMaybe because Utah didn’t have CBB or Patrick they lose the over the top shots. The play selection on the USC game winning drive was odd.

ParticipantAgainst CAL we were moving the ball on the ground, were having success in short yardage on the ground and it served the purpose of running the clock. It was the proper strategy. Had the officials not screwed up the end of that game it could have very well been successful. Against USC we used both the run and the pass to execute that drive perfectly. That is exactly what they were trying to do at the end of the CAL game. There is a reason Utah was like 8-1 in games decided by 7 points or less over the past several years. Whitt understands the strengths of his team, as well as the weaknesses against a particular opponent and uses not only the offense and defense, but clock management to give his team the best chance to win.

ParticipantHey if either 4th Down play against USC failed we lose that game. You win some you lose some. They have played well. No complaints from me

ParticipantWe’d be losing our s**t if we scored and left enough time for Cal to throw another bomb down the field for a touchdown.

InactiveSame thing against USC. They took bombs down the field to try to get ahead quick. USC was doing what it wanted and we barely forced a punt.

ParticipantBottom line is we had our chances at the goal line against Cal and just didn’t execute well enough. Dem’s da breaks.

InactiveRealize that 3 of Utah’s games have been decided on the last play. You keep playing that way and you’re bound to lose the end of game coin flip.
Bottom line, Utah’s offense is not effective. They rank 6th in the PAC 12 in both rush and pass offense, but 9th in scoring offense. We’re ok moving the sticks, but horrible at scoring.
Williams is ranked 4th based on yards per game, but 9th based on passer rating. If he coughs up another mediocre losing performance, I would expect to see Huntley. Yeah he didn’t have his starting receivers and the OL was on its 3rd string center, but he’s the QB and he shoulders it.
Utah also ranks last in the PAC 12 for return yards and by a large margin from #11. We’re just horrible in this category. I think Hobbs needs to take a seat.

InactiveIt has to be the play calling it still doesn’t make sense to me at times. The three final possessions don’t make sense to me. At least the order. I think you pass pass rush. The second down call I called the tight end sweeping out to the end zone before it was snapped. I think that should have been the first down play. Incomplete pass you can live with it. But overall I think the best play would be to line up under center and do a QB dive or quick hand off left or right of the guard or center. We say Utah is a power run team but we have ZERO plays that look like a power run team. We are stuffing a square peg into a round hole still expecting the gaps will fill in later.
