I always thought he was a little nuts. Turns out he is just completely honest and it feels nuts because it is so unconventional for coaches to do that. I guess when you have paramount job security you can just say things like “they are really good, we will take our eleven and see what happens.”
Herm is crazy… like a fox. Depending on who USC hires when the Helton experiment runs its course, ASU may emerge as our biggest rival in the South in the next year or two. He is very quickly building a legit program in Tempe. The guy knows exactly what he is doing and doing it pretty darn well so far.
I’ve always really liked Herm, as both a coach and a broadcaster. He’s smart, funny, and – most importantly – genuine. Just seems like an all-around good dude.
I still really dislike ASU, but at least the head coach doesn’t actively add to the dislike (something Graham definitely did).
