Holiday Bowl

We checked into the Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego this morning. Turns out it’s the team hotel for Wazzu. They, and a whole bunch of their fans, are roaming the halls. It makes me desperately miss the Pac-12.

I once was in El Paso and it was the team hotel for OU for the Sun Bowl. I only had my Texas shirt, so 🤷. Saw Sam Bradford in the business center and some player got on him for being on some sight and he was like, ‘whatever’ (he was injured and not playing in the game and was half out to the NFL anyway).

Eight years ago, I stayed in the same hotel with my family for a week in San Diego and, during that period of time, two bowls were played in the area. Two teams stayed in the same hotel at different times. The first, unfortunately, was BYU, who was playing Wyoming in the Poinsettia Bowl. That went over about as well as a turd in a punchbowl, going to the gym in the early morning and seeing it full of Zoobs. The second team was Wazzu, who played Minnesota in the Holiday Bowl. Sucks to be Wazzu AND Oregon State now…not only do they lose players, they also lose coaches at a rapid rate. If I was a Wazzu or Oregon State fan, I’d be seriously contemplating leaving college sports altogether.

Here’s something fun. Weeks ago, we bought non-refundable tickets to the Midway and Maritime Museums for tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the Holiday Bowl Parade down Harbor Drive, and they’re expecting 100,000 people.

I guess we’ll bail on those tix and do something else. We’ll have to try those museums later, and buy more tickets.
