Utah#1
ParticipantNow that the last game of the season was played Friday night with a season ending “W”, I would expect to hear the hiring of a new OC anytime soon as Scalley (w/ Whitt influence still as HC) with hopes to hold on to some impact players.
It will be interesting to see what players they can convince to stay at Uath as the transfer portal opens up Dec 9th, as the same can be said who they plan on targeting and can bring in to replace outgoing production and/or boost production.
Some recruiting experts list of candidates in order of popular opinion (not all inclusive and maybe leaving out others not mentioned below):
Top candidates:
1. Ben Arbuckle – WSU (would be surprised if they can pull off this hire and maybe bring in the QB as well)
2. Tom Herman – former FAU HC (IMO name recognition and resume, but for some reason not sold on Herman)
3. Dan Mullen – former Florida HC (would be a significant get b/c of name recogition and resume)
4. Mack Letfwich – Texas State (would be a nice get as he’s put TS offense on the map)
5. Brent Vigen – Montana State HC
6. Brennan Marion – UNLV (would be surprised if they hired him as he’s a hot commodity everywhere, plus I think he’s gotten a lot of TV airtime than the other top candidates)
7. Tim Cramsey – Memphis
8. Jordan Davis – North TexasIn-consideration
9. Joe Craddock – Tulane
10. Kyle Cefalo – Utah StPROS: The idea is Scalley will allow new OC to do their job CONS: Whitt still HC, stuck in his old ways and continues to interfere in offense w/more of the same 2024 in 2025. Go UTES!

Sanders
ParticipantPlease no to Dan Mullen and Tom Herman… two fired coaches that are flaming out. Bring in someone that’s moving up not down.

ParticipantPersonally, I think Utah would be lucky to get Herman. How soon we forget, Herman went 22-4 as Houston’s head coach and 32-18 as Texas’s head coach. He’s also 5-1 in bowl games and was Texas’ head coach when they demolished Utah 38-10 in the 2019 Alamo Bowl. He’s already coached in and won in an environment that’s greater in pressure than anything SLC has to offer.

2008 National Champ
ParticipantOC for Urban’s first 3 teams at Ohio State that went 12-0 while on probation, 12-2 and 14-1 with a National Championship. 37.2, 45.5 (3rd) and 44.8 (5th) points per those 3 years.

ParticipantI agree…no matter his subpar record the last two seasons at FAU’s head coach, his resume speaks for itself. I would say the same thing about Mullen with the caveat that he’s been away from the game since the 2021 season.
