These are mine.
1. Be in your seat at least by kickoff.
2. Be welcoming to opposing team fans. I’m inclined not to like Penn State but the guys I sat next to during the NIT game were friendly and respectful even in a big win. We all remember Notre Dame. The Coliseum applauded our team after the opening game. And we know what it’s like to be in Provo or Laramie. Secure people don’t act chippy. Let’s be people as big as our program.
3. You don’t expect your team to fold like a tent when it goes badly. Fans can hold it together too.
4. Some score aggregator I’ve never heard of named the Utes number 1 and suddenly everyone is talking like UCF fans. Can we get this together? We don’t view BYU’s asterisk championship as legit. Not sure why I would want to claim one too. We’re not that far from doing it again. Next time we beat an Alabama again in a New Year’s bowl, it will be for a title. Given the personnel and schedule, next year is as good a shot as we have ever had. I can wait.
5. Let’s have fun! It’s a great day to be a Ute!

UtahParticipant
Your #4 and #5 contradict.
I don’t get Utah fans. The NCAA and PAC-12 come out and say we won the national title in 2008 and some Utah fans want to tell them “no”.
Huh?
-
DuhwayneParticipant
No, Utah, having the record revised ten years later because the equivalent of a KenPom liked Utah’s record best is not winning a national championship. Only UCF fans believe they were the best team. While I think we could have beaten the Gators too in a one off, Florida was the champion that year.
The team has fought hard for a seat at the table and we are almost there as a national brand. I have zero intention of using this to claim that Utah was a champ that year. It’s zoobish. The end.
-
UtahParticipant
I also find this attitude against this announcement weird. You people are the only state in the country that celebrates their statehood. Y’all will throw a parade and fireworks for anything.
Why not take this chance to have a little fun with this? Just enjoy it.
-
StoneParticipant
The BCS was a cartel designed to prevent non-members from sharing in money. The champion of the BCS was simply the champion of the BCS, not the “national champion.” Polls have changed over the decades and are just votes in a beauty contest, not an on-the-field determination (as is the case in every other NCAA sport). I am not going to go out and print NC tshirts 2008, but frankly, from the NCAA’s perspective, the legitimacy of Utah’s claim on NC for 2008 is just as valid as Florida’s claim.
-
RiseasUtesParticipant
FYI, there are 3 polls that listed us as champs and have for years now. It for some reason is now just getting attention.

Wait…who is talking like UCF fans? I’d venture a guess that most of us simply give it a chuckle and move on.
I hope that no one is actually serious about raising a banner for it. That’d just be silly.
-
UtahParticipant
Yeah, I’ve only seen good natured fun out of all this. It’s really not a big deal. It’s cool and that’s about it.
-
-
DuhwayneParticipant
Completely agree. Mostly I’m seeing it on Twitter. If you’re a Crimson Club member it’s not a bad idea to let people on campus know that a banner is bush league. Kind of like the graveyard video. We outgrew that. I’m proud of that.
-
UtahParticipant
This guy has too many friends that are BYU fans.
Utah didn’t lobby for this. They didn’t ask for this. They didn’t push for this.
The NCAA and PAC-12 recognized them as the best team in the country in 2008.
Cool. Hang a banner. Why not? The only people that care are BYU and Utah fan who cares too much what BYU fan thinks.
Use this. Tell kids about it. Get better kids in. Then go win another one.
Its really not a big deal at all.

EagleMountainUteParticipant
Fans should just have fun.
As far as the National Astericks Title. I am sick of being an Astericks every season. We shouldn’t be proud of a joke organization like the Ncaa giving us an Astericks. But if it is fun for fans then good on them I just don’t understand it.
-
ironman1315Participant
At this point I would just accept for the lulz since BYU fans are P**SED about the whole thing.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Yeah I would rather have USC, Washington and Zona fans cry about us kicking their ass. I haven’t said this yet but I want to beat Oregon the most. I hate Oregon fans hate Nike and just can’t stand the state of Oregon. I want them to be crying all of the way back to Eugene.
-
ironman1315Participant
Oh, that is definitely number 1 on my list (beating the PAC-12) but just as some fun troll-shaped icing, really want Utah to screw with BYU.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Every day Utah tightens the screw on them. They are so screwed by us they need to report it to the honor code office.

I’ll leave the rest of you to debate #2-#5, while I figure out how to accomplish #1.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
The biggest issue is the s**tty parking.
-
-
DuhwayneParticipant
Look, some people just like to be contrary, but I think all can agree that the trolling potential for this exists.
I mocked up a t-shirt that I would wear about this topic. Yes, that is me and I shot that in my bathroom.
It has the added feature of trolling BYU fans without openly trolling BYU fans. Maybe Dahlelama could put something together?

bopahullParticipant
When I went to school (many many moons ago) USU was known as a party school, has that changed?
I didn’t go to school there, but that was their rep.
-
DuhwayneParticipant
I attended frat parties at both schools. The rowdiest ones go to Utah State. There is an admissions difference recently that reinforces this even more. People don’t see the admissions stats creeping north but they are.
-
Puget UteParticipant
With the U of U being the 3rd largest state school now (after UVU and Weber iirc) allows them to be more selective. Grades and test scores at Utah are trending upward rapidly.
