It’s game week. 🙂 We came out of last week without a loss and without any injuries! This is good!

UtesRuleParticipant
Presumably, but injuries can happen in practice and I hear they had a couple of very physical practices last week due to the loss.
I’m feeling pretty optimistic though…Utes typically bounce back VERY well after unexpected, “bad” losses under Whitt.

It sucks on so many levels losing before a bye week.
Thank you for the post, Tony. It brought a bit of excitement to my Monday.
GO UTES!!

I’m still waiting for that cloud over our heads to disappear and a new day with a Rising sun to appear.

Friday night forecast is looking cloudy

After this comment, I am feeling bad. Team could come out deflated, unmotivated, and soft due to Rising drama if he doesn’t/can’t play.

If Rising doesn’t trot out Friday, I expect Wilson to struggle and Utah’s offense to leave points on the field. The team just doesn’t seem to have much spark on either side with Rising sitting on the sideline.

Big question is can the team rally behind Wilson and get a win Friday if Cam is still out? Obviously the coaches and team are fully aware of his situation. He has been practicing and they have witnessed first hand how he is gripping and throwing the ball. Maybe knowing he is actually getting close to playing will inspire them to get through one more week if needed.
I’m not so sure he didn’t reinjure the finger the Wednesday before the Ok state game. The line dropped 5 points instantly and the media pointed to a “setback” on Wednesday. Maybe he tried to come back too soon and made things worse.
If that was the case why not be transparent about it? Why put extra pressure on Cam? If the media knew I’m sure the coaching staff of teams we are playing know.

I think the team will come out a lot more fired up than against Arizona whether or not Rising plays. If that loss didn’t leave them with a bad taste in their mouth I don’t have a lot of hope for the rest for the season. I think it will be a good game. As last weekend showed there is parity in the Big 12 and it seems to be appearing across college football. At times parity can be frustrating but overall is good for the sport in my opinion. We all loved watching the upsets last Saturday! It just sucked the Saturday before when it was Utah being upset.

ASU game tells us whether or not Utah is off to a slow start this season or is truly not a very good football team. KW’s back in his comfort zone coaching as the hunter. We saw last weekend what happens to good teams that don’t show up. Sone Bama fans are already calling for DeBoers head…geez.
Defense is fine. Utes score TDs 2 out of 3 times against UofA in the RS forces UofA to play a different strategy. Offense, needs to get their sh&* together. Wilson is doing very well put in the starting role where most Frosh ease into experience in garbage time. Need to set him up to succeed. Not letting Wilson check out of plays with 11 defenders stacked between the tackles is going to get more of what we saw against UofA. Did not see IW play in H.S., willing to bet he checked out of plays in H.S. all the time. Ludwig and KW thought Utah could bully ball a weak UofA defense and got burned. A lot of prep and in game blame to go around from the coaching staff.
For comparison, FWIW.
Arch Manning in his first home game start this season against Sun Belt ULMonroe as a RS Frosh following several garbage time experience games including last year vs Wilson’s first start against USU as a true Frosh on the road. Sure, other variables involved to make it a pure comparison. IMO, Wilson is well on his way to be the next Utah star QB. Wilson’s biggest obstacle is experience and bad game prep/coaching. The weird Rising situation with KW, etc, I’m sure has not helped team morale.Manning: 15/29, 258 yds passing, TD 2, 1 INT, 1 sack
Wilson: 20/33, 239 yds passing, TD 3, 1 INT, 1 sackHonestly, at this point, I have no idea what to expect on Friday based on what’s happened over the past 5 games. Clearly Utah has not played up to their potential looking how the teams they’ve played are doing.

OC just said he thinks Cam is playing this week. So I’m ready to be hurt and bamboozled all over again.

Who is OC?! See @Ghost’s comment above predicting a cloudy forecast for Friday.

I just heard from someone who is involved in the program that Cam’s cut was much deeper than originally thought. He has suffered excessive swelling. When he tries to throw, he has no accuracy. It doesn’t sound like the staff is optimistic about Cam playing this Friday.

Charlie FoxtrotParticipant
I had a deep cut on my right hand index finger that required two layers of stitching. One set of dissolving inside and then the normal stitches on the outside. It took 3 days for the lidocaine to clear out of my finger because of the amount of swelling. Not knowing if I had nerve damage for several days was not fun. Even after I regained the feeling in my finger, the swelling and stiffness was an issue for weeks even with a splint that kept me from bending and using the finger normally.
If he truly had a deep cut, he is probably just getting to the point where his finger is starting to behave normally. If it keeps swelling up, keeping it in a splint is probably his only option.
