Seems like a good decision on Huntley’s part. He was never going to be the starter in Baltimore, he has a shot to be the starter over Watson. I was surprised that he only signed for the vet minimum, but I think its a good gamble on his part (assuming there were other options).

Not great. Browns also just signed Jameis Winston as back QB and are heavily invested in Watson. Would take a lot for Snoop to be the starter.
-
chinngiskhaanParticipant
right, but there is at least a decent chance that Watson doesn’t ever regain his Texans form, and Jameis Winston hasn’t exactly been great either.
If Huntley is going to prove himself as a starter (not saying he will), this is as good an opportunity as he is going to get.

If Watson gets back to anything close to what he was with the Texans, you can expect Huntley to not see the field much. The fact that he didn’t have many suitors shows that he’s probably not thought of as starter material in the NFL. That being said, if your personality will let you take it, there have been many QBs that have made a really nice living as perennial back-ups. This will be Huntley’s fifth NFL season coming up and, seeing as the average length of a player’s career in the NFL is around 3.3 years, he’s already beaten the odds and playing with house money.

So far he’s been paid about $4.8M over his 4 years (mistakenly thought 5 because he had two different contracts in 2020, making it 5 lines when looking at contract data – 2020, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023)
Being one of 4 QBs means one of them isn’t going to make the roster. It’s not going to be Deshaun Watson and it’s probably not going to be Jameis. So it’s between the 6th year UDFA and the second year drafted QB. They don’t bring Huntley in if their confident in DTR, but neither of them are assured a roster spot

No, this will be his fifth season. He didn’t start in the league until 2020: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HuntTy01.htm.

Wish Miami would’ve signed him, like him over White and Skyler Thompson.
I also wish they’d signed Leki Fotu since they needed lots of DT help.

I wish he would have joined the Vikings, just for the sake of playtime when Darnold plays like đź’©

I feel like he could’ve been a backup for a couple other teams for more than the league minimum. I know Philly was looking but then got Pinkett. I guess Ravens were ready to move along. I think Browns could pan out, but I don’t think he really has a shot at starting there so I’m mostly disappointed he had to sign for the league minimum. Backups that have done less are making more. Covey is at the league minimum (once they activate him from practice squads) but is a hyper-specialist (hoping he gets some WR reps).

Could be good. I could get into the reliability of Watson, Winston and DTR, but you don’t carry 4 QBs if you think you have your backup. Snoop may be competing for more than QB3.
Stepfanski brought Flacco out of retirement and got the Browns to the playoffs. He will do whatever is necessary to win, even if it has to do with Watson who is a shell of himself btw.

I don’t care if the only time Huntley ever holds a football is on the sideline and PATs. All I want for that dude is to get paid enough to take care of himself and his loved ones, and then retire and enjoy life with fully healthy joints and cognitive function.

Browns and Jets are where QB careers go to die.

I think it’s a bad decision. Being on the Ravens behind Lamar gives him time and money and being around a culture with winning experience. If he was getting significant money to go play for a loser team like the Browns then ok it’s a risk and a payoff. That’s not what he’s getting.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
Are we sure the Ravens were going to keep him around?
-
MDUteParticipant
Yea that’s my question as well. I thought if he was leaving to compete for a backup spot on the Browns that meant he found out he wasn’t going to be part of the Ravens plans moving forward.
