The locker room. Whitt needs to come out and tell these guys they played well enough to win and he f**ked it up. Otherwise some guys won’t let this go. That was an absolutely heartbreaking way to lose and these kids played their asses off. To end up not having a last shot because of one of the dumbest coaching decisions of the year could be lasting
-
UtahParticipant
Bull s**t. Opposite. Whitt went for the win. He was aggressive. Fake punt, onside kick, going for it on fourth down, and then giving the team a chance to win it in regulation.
Dude is a mofo. And he just rallied this lockerroom and proved to his team that 17.5 point underdog don’t mean s**t. If you play the Whitt game, you gonna take it to teams. And you gonna have a chance to win every freaking game you play in.
And now Taylor is getting his s**t together?
I just feel bad for Colorado.
-
noneyadbParticipant
Sorry Utah,,, Whitt may have been playing for the win, but just proved he has no idea how to manage the game in the final minutes.
-
rbmw263Participant
That timeout call was the dumbest coaching decision of the year bar none and maybe the last several. This is consensus among non Utah fans and national media. You don’t call a timeout there. It does nothing
-
UtahParticipant
So, what happens if you don’t call a timeout? You head to OT? Isn’t the rule, you go for the win on the road, go for OT at home?
Did Whitt make the right call? Who the f**k knows. BUT, reality is, we go to OT, we lose anyways.
He went for the win. I won’t fault a man for that.
It was a great game. I walked around all day avoiding thinking about this game because I thought we were going to get our socks blown off. We balled out. We lost. It happens.
Thank god our team has more men on it than our stands do. Get up, dust yourselves off, and go f**k up Colorado. The better team won tonight. We almost f**ked ’em in their own home.
I’ll take that.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
He had two timeouts @Utah. Two for 22 seconds. Three you can maybe stop the clock to force a punt.
Going for two on the road is betting against the overwhelming odds of the home team winning in OT.Hoping for a bad snap, fumble, or punt return TD against the road team VS OT is stupid.
-
rbmw263Participant
If you want to be aggressive and go for the win you go for it on 4th and inches not call a timeout when you have 2 and can’t force UW to punt anyways
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
3/3 on the day correct? Odds say yes on that attempt as well but allowing even better field position for a FG and more time for Browning? You punt every time which Whitt didn’t hesitate to do and at that point you made the decision to play for OT or hope for a MUFF….against Pettis?

Loss to Colorado what does that say about this season? Maybe if DC isn’t so banged up? Maybe if Shyne was healthy? Maybe….anyways you know where I am going with this.
Losing to Colorado says a lot more about Whitt’s capabilities. Colorado is a team you should beat, at home but the PAC12 has sucked in November for Whitt. It has sucked in October this last season. The season has progressed to this point a lot of things have been corrected. Remember when we worried about Long snapper issues? Fun ride see how Whitt responds for sure.
-
UtahParticipant
Wait, what? You base your point on Utah’s long snapper issues? Isn’t that fixed? lol. Dude, you contradict yourself all over the place. First your Petersen/USC contradcition then this? Might be time to put the keyboard down for a couple weeks.

EagleMountainUteParticipant
1-4.

Do the players have no culpability in the loss? Huntley’s interception, defense giving up countless 3rd and longs, not executing in the red zone, the list goes on and on.
The coach will not lose the locker room over this. That’s preposterous.
-
UtahParticipant
Yup. These players aren’t 150 beanpoles keyboard bitches or 350 lb sweaty ass meatheads (which am I, ha ha).
This didn’t lose the lockerroom. This strengthened it. We were freaking 17.5 point underdogs.
The offense balled out. Without Carrington. The defense was down Chase Hansen, Fitts, Hughes. And freaking had Washington against the ropes.
The crazy thing? If Blackmon makes that INT, we win this game by 14 points. One play.
Whitt didn’t lose anything tonight.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
The crazy thing? If Blackmon makes that INT, we win this game by 14 points.
Yeah we are all zoob for being critical of the decision Whitt made at that point in the game with those current set of variables.
I guess zoob wouldn’t be a fair analysis anymore of you. You are Poppinga. Ifs and buts
-
UtahParticipant
Hey, what happens if Blackmon makes that catch? He scores 7. 14 point swing.
Dude, you really are outing your lack of intelligence here.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Ok my lack of intelligence. You can go on and on with what ifs. What if Wishnowsky fails to convert the fourth down and it is swallowed up. What if Wishnowsky fails to recover the onside kick? What if a big giant meteor comes crashing from the sky destroying us all? Obviously none of this at all will matter what am I about to type. It doesn’t matter at all anyways because discussing things with you is like arguing on the internet. Absolutely pointless.
People on here have a legitimate critical response to Coach Whittingham’s decision to not allow the game to OT. He possibly thought he had THREE timeouts because that is the only conceivable way you get the ball back. He didn’t he had TWO timeouts with 22 seconds left after that run to the left sideline? Petersen is allowed to scheme a play out and you just went against HORRIBLE odds. You talk about Vegas betting lines and odds (I thought the 17.5 betting line was pretty ridiculous considering how Utah’s defense responded to Wazzu sans a lot of critical players.)You pin that play right there of the bad timed jump would have led to a 14 point swing? Well things could have changed play calling for Petersen could have changed just on that point swing alone. You have MULTIPLE data points now of Utah giving up loads of points in the fourth quarter. 80 points to be exact going into this game. By comparison of the other four quarters it is 48/67/46. That game was always going to be a close one and it felt like it with Whitt staying alive beating the odds countless times. The odds on getting the ball back with two timeouts and 22 seconds? I don’t even want to know. You can say well this would have changed the dynamic of this and that.
If the refs calling holding twice on Washington maybe they don’t score on that drive 30 all drive. If Washington makes a FG and a PAT you have a different game entirely. You can’t say if to me and sound intelligent either. I don’t see the point at all you are trying to make.
-
UtahParticipant
It boils down to this:
The offense carried us in this game. Whitt made a call, that all the numbers support, to give the offense one more chance.
It failed.
It was a hell of a game.
My criticism is with the amount of whining and bitching going on about the call. Not the disagreeing with the call.
You can disagree with the call like an adult. Or you can disagree with the call like a bitch.
Don’t be a bitch.
Washington is a better team. There isn’t a soul on earth that doesn’t believe that. And we took them to the woodshed and almost own. WITH OUR OFFENSE.
If you can’t see the good in that…
smh. Sometimes, you just tip your hat to the better team and move on.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Now I am an ignorant bitch? Ok got it.
Utah almost won with the offense? Utah decided to bring the defense back out after the three and out when it was 30-23.Listen if you want to talk about close calls talk about how the defense was damn close to closing it out on third down and fourth.Don’t go on and on about how we are all bitches and zoobs for complaining about that call.
There are no odds that support calling time out on first down with TWO timeouts and 22 seconds. The odds of a bobble snap, fumble, bad punt or anything on second and third down extremely unlikely. Washington can still throw the ball so interceptions are unlikely after Browning caught fire. There is literally no way you get to fourth down and force a punt with only two timeouts. Again explain the odds to me on this with statistics.
-
-
UtahParticipant
Also, you are distilling the whole game down to one call.
The point of my post about Blackmon is that you can’t blame the game on the time out call. There were a number of plays that could have swung the game.
Hell, if Fotu falls on that fumble early in the game, and we pin Washington deep instead of giving them the ball back on Utah’s side of the field, when they easily go down and score, we win the game. If they make the XP or the FG chip shot, then all the whining doesn’t happen.
To say that Whitt screwed this game up with the TO call, when he had so many other amazing calls…is dumb.To call him a terrible coach or say or insinuate that he should be fired? Dumber.
It was a great game. Washington was better.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I am distilling the game down to one call? You just did it twice in that single post and once above with that Blackmon tip interception.
I am saying Whitt made a terrible decision to give his team less than a 1% shot vs possibly 25% in OT on the road? You seem to be defending that call and calling everyone names.

In 7 days we will see. Against a Colorado team coming off a bye that is also looking for a bowl game.

Making the game all that more meaningful. I’ll be there no matter what. Go Utes!

I would be willing to bet that the Colorado game looks just like ASU. Devastating loss just like usc and will have a hangover
-
UtahParticipant
I don’t think so. Our offense freaking balled out tonight. Versus the best defense in the PAC-12.
When is the last time our offense carried this team? 2004?
I bet the offense is pumped up to Mars and will be ready to put 50 versus Colorado.
Singleton will be ready to go out and put his name on the 2018 All PAC-12 team. Huntley will be ready to show that he will be the top returning QB in the PAC-12. Taylor will want to put on a show and prove that his iPhone nonsense is the real deal. The OL will want to prove that they will be one of the top units in the PAC-12 next year.
If I’m on the offense, I’m freaking pumped after this game. Whitt called an onside kick, fake punt and let you go for it on fourth down.
What a freaking vote of confidence. He put the game in the offense’s hands.
Hell, even the time out call was to give the offense a chance to win it in regulation.
I’d be stoked and chomping at the bit to play Colorado if I’m the offense.
