BYU fan here…
I watched the ASU game. I legit don’t know what Whit was thinking. Rising couldn’t move..that was BEFORE he got rolled up on. I have no idea why they didn’t go to Wilson. He’s been goodish. But Rising was unplayable. Truly one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen.
One more thought…I honestly think there was some hubris by the coaching staff. There’s almost a ‘we don’t need to have a good QB to beat these teams’ attitude. I have no other logical explanation than this.
I fully expect you guys to win the next two games before the bye.

Welcome to Ute Hub. Opposing fans and guests are all welcome! Trolls, which you obviously are not, not so much. We’re all puzzled as to why Cam was left in the game. I suspect Wilson is as well. When questioned, Coach said something to the effect that Cam wanted to play or felt he could play. To that I ask who is in charge?

Totally agree, Tony. Since when is the player (in this case, one that is obviously injured) in charge of making decisions on who plays. This is why the ASU loss is totally on the coaching staff.
Ever since Baylor, it was a back and forth with talk about the doctor’s making the call, and he was ‘close’ to being ready. Where were the doctors on Friday night? As a coach with as much clout and experience as Whitt, how on earth can you say he gave us the best chance to win when he couldn’t even jog, let alone throw it. Makes no sense. Wilson would have been so much better for us.
Welcome byufan. Glad others are seeing this and not something just from us U fans.
Is there anyone that has a clip of the play when Cam got hurt? Wasn’t it like the 2nd play of the game?

Welcome, brother. College football is wild. Which is why we love the highs and keep putting ourselves through misery. You guys won 5 games last season and ended the year on a 5 game losing. Now you’re 1 or 2 wins away from top 10 with basically the exact same team. Remarkable and very admirable. I can really respect a team like that which sticks together. On a personal level I’m really happy for Kalani and Jay Hill. Here’s hoping Isaac can lead us into the Holy War on a little winning streak. Go Utes!

Lol we don’t know what he was thinking either… for almost every week for almost 2 years…
At this point I’m not certain Whitt knows what Whitt is thinking. What I’m most sad about is watching that old legend be tarnished. We love him but it’s pretty evident he stuck around for too long. As far as hubris goes you’re right but consider that for the previous 15 years that idea of not needing to take the QB position seriously was largely validated because he was so good at other things. When we got lucky in landing a couple skilled QBs (Huntley and Rising) that could stand Whitt, we enjoyed success, but that’s really such a crapshoot.
I think my biggest “I knew it” as a Ute fan was seeing this coming in about Huntley’s Junior/Senior season. When we lost our incredible and long standing special teams capability with departure of Matt Gay and Mitch Wischnowsky that “load” was distributed across the rest of team and it buckled. And our special teams have never recovered. In fact, the last two years may be our worse yet. Because not only can we not kick, we don’t have covey (or seemingly anyone) returning punts and kicks anymore, which was the last remaining gasp of upside.
For years prior we often won extended field position battles, parlaying that into 6 to 9 point wins, with that capability gone Utah’s character changed as a team, and while some of the changes were successful I don’t think Whittingham ever truly evolved and understood his new team.
It’s been a bittersweet realization for me to watch many of my concerns manifest when I was holding onto hope that we’d pull things together. It sucked knowing that our coach’s best day were behind him and intsead of his capabilities leveling out, they continued downward. Tough to watch on one had. But happy in that Whitt, as even a shade of his former self, could have good timing and put together PAC 12 championship caliber teams. Also, I take solace in knowing that not only will Utah recover from losing our legendary coach. It’s looking quite likely that we improve.
In any case, Welcome to the board. Saying we like BYU is a complete lie to put it extremely mildly, but you won’t be treated here as a Ute fan would be on cougarboard. Your contributions are appreciated. I’m glad to see them enjoy success, sort of like in the mountain west days when we both benefited from each others’ success. BYU has had a rough time for a while and they’re too good a team to be kept down forever, enjoy the season.

OP, you meant ‘win the next three games’, right? Right??
Welcome to the board. Everyone is as baffled as you are.
