I may be in the minority on this board. But, I don’t want to give up on Isaac yet. I know that the offense was terrible this season and Wilson did not look good.

BUT – I still think he has talent and after the experience he gained this season, I believe he will be a better QB. Most importantly, the blame for the terrible offense is not all on Wilson. Our offensive line was not very good. Our offensive scheme was too complicated for anyone who did not have years of experience, i.e. Cam Rising. The play calling also did not help Wilson.

It sounds like he may leave. I hope he doesn’t.

And over his 10 seasons as a OC/QB coach, Beck’s quarterbacks have averaged 3,300 passing yards and 509 rushing yards, for an average of 3,809 yards of total offense per season. I’d love to see Isaac in this style of offense.

Everything I hear is that he is a terrible teammate. I am 99% sure he is gone.

From some of social media and sport boards confirms your post. Rumor has it Whitt had a few heated exchanges with Wilson’s parents, but didn’t say what it was about or elaborated. I also read somewhere he’s receiving NIL and believe part of the reason for his commitment to Utah (and not all because he’s 100% Ute in his heart) and why he’s #2 QB and not Rose or Bottari who appeared to be the better choices when they were inserted near end of the season. As the season wore on with him as #2, I sensed players on the offensive side, especially the Oline didn’t go out of their way to protect him in the pocket.

I hope he stays, but if not, I believe Beck will work with Whitt and hit the portal to get the best QB option on the market they believe can work in Beck’s system.

I have heard some rumors but don’t wish to repeat them. They are different than those ones. I trust the source of mine. But it kind of confirms the difference when Rose, and Bottari come in and move the ball. Players look more energetic.

Wilson’s last game he was holding on wayyyy too long. Maybe he is that kind of QB. Makes like one brilliant throw with 5-6 bad ones. He has had stretches where he moved it as well. I am open to the possibility of being wrong.

I didn’t think IW was very good at the read, didn’t hand off well. IW steps up in the pocket way better than Bottari. Just holds on too long. Rose made better decisions to take off in the read.

Bottari was not better than Wilson. That needs to stop. Rose yes, Bottari nope.

If it’s true that any olineman didn’t do their jobs and risked hurting a teammate because of personal grudges, then they can GTFO and take their coach with them.

We can take shots at the youngest player on the roster that being asked to lead a team with playoff aspirations, saying he has an ego issue, but the older, bigger lineman are taking plays of so he take shots?

Whitt lets Cam decide when he okays, but is aware that the oline is intentionally messing up to punish a fellow teammate and he allows it? Unacceptable for him and Harding.

Wilson needs to grow and Mature, but he made throws we haven’t seen in a long time, mixed with some really dumb decisions.

Nobody’s saying the lineman were intentionally hurting Isaac. But lineman will absolutely block harder for QBs they like. It’s not even an intentional thing most the time but if your lineman like you they’ll naturally block harder for you.

Do your job, even if you don’t like the guy, or hit the portal.

Or send the guy nobody likes to the portal. I don’t get why this is so hard for you to understand

                  I understand just fine.

I don’t expect everyone to get along and be friends. I do expect them to do their job.

Team chemistry is important, but Perhaps running a program where the favorites get to call the shots (Cam deciding when he plays and can’t get benched no matter how bad he is), constantly underworking groups (Oline), etc. keeps us from playing to our potential.

Or, maybe you’re right. It’s all the fault of one of the youngest player on the team, who has been forced to carry the aspirations of an entire program, and his bad attitude.

Yeah. Clearly it’s the kids fault. Throw him in the trash. He’s worthless

That took a turn. You make it sound like Wilson was just sitting in the corner of the locker room minding his own business and reading his playbook when all of a sudden the whole season was thrown on his shoulders before he was ready and he didn’t want any part of it.

If there were negotiations and/or promises made to get him to come to Utah, he was a part of it. If he isn’t getting along with his teammates and came across as an arrogant entitled prick, that’s all on him.

Scott Mitchell had a similar reputation as Wilson when he was at Utah, although without the helicopter parents baggage. There’s a reason his nickname was “golden boy” and it wasn’t positive. Receivers were convinced that if they got on his bad side he’d deliver a hospital ball in practice or deliberately throw to someone else even if they were open. The difference is that Mitchell delivered in games. Teammates will overlook a lot if you are helping them win games. And they are completely unforgiving if you are an ass and considered the weak link when losing.

Does that translate to deliberately missing blocks? I doubt it. But with Rising, someone was always making that extra effort play at just the right time. Rose also seemed to have that same effect but that’s armchair psychology from 30,000 feet on a small sample size.

I agree, Isaac was one of the top high school QBs in the country. I think he has talent but wasn’t ready to carry an offense with as many flaws as Utah’s offense. The biggest flaw of all was the uninspired play calling.
I hope he stays because I think he may become an excellent QB if he is given a chance to mature. I’d hate to see us miss out on another one.

I’m really neutral on him staying or leaving. I think the some of the problems with the offense this season was the decision to make him QB2. I don’t think that was consistent with what much of the locker room believed. I don’t know if Rose has more ultimate upside than Wilson, but I believe he was more ready to be QB2 this season than Wilson.

I’m fine if he stays, but don’t think he should get special treatment. He has talent in certain areas and lack it in others. I think his athleticism is overrated. At times he throws a good deep pass but struggles with shorter routes. I wonder if he does the film study to lean how to deal with the blitz. A lot he made of his age, but it seems he has regressed the more he played.

If any of the bad teammate rumors or Whitt arguing with his parents are true I hope he grows up no matter where he goes. That type of crapp is detrimental to any organization especially a football team. I hope it isn’t true and if he stays he blows us all away.

Any qb that can hit Beck’s averages is a huge win for Utah.

I was a BIG Wilson defender. However, if the rumors are true about locker room issues and parents having shouting matches with Whit…then gtfo. I just want a dynamic offense. I’d love for Dampier to transfer in with another QB. Wilson redshirts. Dampier at 1, Rose and or another transfer QB at 2 & 3. I’m also really intrigued with Ficklin.

Wilson was good in high school because they had the best talent by far in the state. His mechanics are not good. Just watch his feet. That’s one thing that he has to fix. He also needs a growth spurt so he can actually see over FBS lineman.

Agreed, Corner canyon easily had the best line in the state last year and the only guy over 6ft was Ike Garcia. Isaac’s never had to overcome adversity like he did this year and all he did was make me think he can’t do it. Now he could easily prove me wrong but I’m not counting on it

If he leaves Utah, he’ll be one of those guys that we’ll never hear from again. The talent and physical tangibles just aren’t there.

I think you are in the minority. Just finished watching AZ State’s FRESHMAN quarterback. In this day and age, we really don’t have the luxury of hoping any given quarterback develops. I for one believe Wilson already had an opportunity to prove himself and unfortunately for him he failed.

Is IW athletic and durable enough to run Beck’s true RPO scheme where the QB actually is a threat to run not the phony BS Ludwig tried to run sometimes where everyone knew the QB is a zero run threat. Dampier was the leading rusher in 5 of 12 of UNM games. Hard to visualize IW running for 800-1000 yards in a season.

No, Isaac is not a major run game threat like his brother Zach was. Also shorter. I honestly think he will end up in the MW or big sky.

I could see byu throwing a bone at him just to keep the Wilsons in the BYU camp, but I just don’t see him winning the qb job. Retzlaff could play 2 more years because he only played 4 games last year and saved was till able to redshirt.

I don’t care if Wilson stays or goes. I’ve seen nothing from him this season that tells me he’s a must-have, generational player ala a Caleb Williams, etc…to me, he has the potential to be a serviceable starter but so do about a thousand other guys currently suiting up in the FBS. So, if he wants to stay and compete, great…if he wants to leave for greener pastures, good luck…but in no way, shape, or form should Wilson be able to dictate terms to Utah.
