OOC schedule is just plain old stupidity. 1. What good does it do if we lose? 2. What good does it do if we win?
1. If we lose OOC games to tough opponents the best we can hope for is what has been said about our program for years now, we put up a good fight. That’s it. Worst case scenario, we spend valuable energy and prep time on teams that costs us wins in conference.
2. If we win those games, we still have to go undefeated in conference (or darn near it) to be considered for the playoff, and we are simply not that good yet… Even if we did go undefeated, and end up in the playoff, we’d still get our butts handed to us by Clemson or Bama.
The bottom line is, we need to worry about getting to the Rose Bowl consistently. This will help our recruiting more than anything else that is within our grasp. OOC schedule has absolutely nothing to do with that. Who cares if crappy OOC schedules make the Pac look bad? If the Cali schools look bad, and we consistently win the Pac12, yay for us, more Cali recruits!
When we have gone undefeated in the Pac12, we can start talking about a tougher OOC schedule, until then it’s unnecessary at best, at worst it’s a useless hurdle.
