Gutted this morning here in Santa Clara.

Appreciate our program folks. I’m 38. Utes just started making it to bowl games when I was kid. To think about what has become of this program since the early 90s makes me grateful to be a Utah Man. The best is yet to come and with the good comes the bad occassionally. The Utes will continue to rise.

Going for it on 4th and 2 at midfield was the turning point. If we had gotten that and extended that drive, it could have been a different game.

Sadly, we didn’t and it wasn’t.

The missed 4th down on the first drive was a killer. I am perplexed why so many team do not use the QB sneak especially now that players can push from behind.

We scored after that though, on the Nacua TD. The real back breaker was the long TD run. We were down one score, Oregon has a 3rd and 1 at their own 30 with 7:20 left. 3rd and 1. Seems like a run play. It is a run play. Right up the gut.

Leki gets pancaked by a single blocker. Penisini beats his guy to the outside, but the play is to the inside. OL get to second level on the LBs. There is an open hole and Burgess flies down and meets Verdell but misses the tackle. No one is behind him and Verdell scores a 70 yard TD.

Two score game and panic mode for the offense. Huntley throws into double coverage on a first and 10 and it gets picked. Game over.
