No silly, not today, not right now, but by the end of next season?
I think he could be. I doubt he plays college ball past next season.
IMHO he’s already the best freshman we’ve ever had here.
Yes. I watched KVH as a freshman and yes, I watched Andre Miller too.

I think he’s definitely the most athletic Ute we’ve had in recent memory. I could see he potentially leaving after his sophomore season though, if he continues to play as well as he is.

Honestly I think he is just slightly too small for the NBA at his position. This is good news because it means he will stick around longer. I love watching him play and enjoy his improvement over time. He has been a tremendous surprise!

Deep tourney run maybe. He doesn’t take over games like freshman do who go to the NBA. He will be very good next season and start to be the best on the court.

He strikes me as the kind of player that would REALLY take over and blossom his senior year.
Yes, he’s fantastic now. But as mentioned he might be slightly undersized.
He’s also got to get a better mid-range shot and make sure the long-range success he’s experiencing isn’t just because he’s going through a good “streak”.
But ya… he’s a very special player.
Big time one of my favorites.
I LOVE THIS TEAM! -

I had to register because of this post. Come on, really? Daniels? He’s good and I’m stoked he’s a Ute, but best ever? Even saying best freshman ever is nutso.
Let’s look at KVH: As a freshman, averaged a freshman record 18.3 ppg and 8 rebounds. First team all conference. (Then three-time WAC POY, and all time scoring leader and all time WAC scoring leader.)
I’d argue that even Jakob Poeltl was a better freshman.
I like Daniels, but come on.

Bogut and Britton Johnson were both fantastic freshmen too. I would go with Van Horn though for sure.

UteriderParticipant
Only with Poetel could you make a case, as he was also playing in the Pac 12. KVH would not have approached his freshman numbers outside the WAC. Y’know, as California native KVH wound up in the WAC. Why not the PAC 10?
-
DUDEParticipant
KVH would have had the same nummbers had we have been in the Pac at that time. In those days Utah was better than any team in the Pac and so were about 2 or 3 other wac teams.

Absolutely agree. The First half of this thread is out of control. Daniels is a great young player, and his improvement is exciting, but best freshman ever? No chance. Not yet. You could argue he has been the most surprising, or most improved based on expectations and the beginnng of the season. But its way to soon say GFOAT.

That’s how they get you… Sucker!!! But since you are here, why don’t you stay awhile. UFN is most likely dead and I have always enjoyed your basketball posts.

I think not. I love his athletic ability, but here are just a few names that I don’t think he will pass:
Billy McGill
Jerry Chambers
Merv Jackson
Mike Newlin
Danny Vranes
Tom Chambers
KVH
Andre Miller
Bogut

His jumper will limit him. Hes such a fantastic basketball player. Incredible feel for the game. Playmaker. But his jumpshot spins sideways and that scares me. Im very excited about Daniels, but best ever? Hes got a long list ahead of him.
