This is a bad Whitt MO. The silence right before NSD doesn’t bode well for the program meaning he’s not leaving and heavily involved in the next OC hire and Scalley may have very little to say in the matter. I could be right and I could be wrong, but prepare yourselves for news that Ute fans and recruits may not like but that appeases Whitt and he is satisfied with. If guys hit the portal after national signing day, we’ll probably know why. Whitt may not announce the new OC until after signing day hoping recruits will still sign not really knowing who it is. Rule, you’re a great poster on here, so no disrespect. To me, 5-7 feels like the sky is falling (especially for a team that everyone predicted to win the conference). So, I don’t care what it takes or who does it, but I’d just like for the product they put out on the field to not be the nonsense (not you, defense) that they ran out there the past couple of years. That is all.

If everyone was healthy and we went 5-7 I would agree with you. No one would have predicted us to win the conference if they knew before hand we’d be playing our 5th string QB.

Only counter to that is Utah did well enough in 2023 with the same injury troubles and in my view significantly harder schedule. This season was a regression by most standards. It was the way they lost that has many people concerned. It was clearly coaching decisions and getting out coached by subjectively worst teams.

Also, he already has his transition into the consulting role in his contract. They’ve known this was coming for a while, so I’m sure they have already covered this when he wasn’t planning to stay through the whole thing.

If he stays, I don’t think it’s about the money. I think he is proud and a competitor and doesn’t want to go out defeated. Here’s the problem, he made his choice. He chose Rising over what was best for the program.
