EagleMountainUteParticipant
First four games I feel like it is a 3-1 start. Washington being a tough loss. Just gut feeling on how much projected improvement there will be defensively. Healthy Chase Hansen as a linebacker SS combo in that projection. 4-0 obviously being possible in that scenario but Peterson just has Whitts number I think. Maybe this weekend will change my opinion.
Don’t know why I divide it there but 4-0 is kind of where it all went wrong for Utah this season. Health and quality of opponent improving drastically. This stretch sucks I don’t even want to think where Utah will be.
Last game of the year. Stop playing BYU this game does nothing for Utah. Sitake will be fired after this game

I really want USC in late november. Just seems fair to screw them over. Let’s hope for a October Utah winter. We haven’t seen one for awhile.
-
TexanUteParticipant
October Utah winters will become more rare as runaway global warming takes hold. CO2 410 ppm and rising
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
It snowed in July last year above 7k. Utah has been getting different weather lately. As soon as I start buying my deer tag again it will snow just watch.
-
utefansince79Participant
Not sure if related to whole global warming debate or not, (don’t want to go there, TOOOO controversial for what is supposed to be a fun fan board) but it’s snowing outside here in Lehi right now. Wonder what it’s like up at the high school playoffs.

I play a lot of golf so global warming works for me.

Wine industry will really take off.

Petersen has Whitt’s number?
They are 1-1 in the PAC-12 vs each other. Whitt beat Petersen down in game one and it took three blocks in the back on one play for Washington to beat Utah in game two.
-
Ute BcParticipant
I imagine he was going with head to head stats including the Boise St vs Utah games. Don’t know what that stat is but I suspect it’s not good for Whitt, based on my recollection.
-
ironman1315Participant
Wouldn’t it be 1-2?
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Well he has already won the north who if you look head to head has been better than the South since the advent of the PAC12. I guess if you want to compare programs and stuff you basically conceding the whole well Whitt has had to build a school up from the lower ranks etc… He is the highest paid coach in the PAC12 now. He did get pantsed in the CFP but he has actually been unlike Whitt. In the modern era Utah fans across all spectrums would cut off their left foot to have him as the head coach of the program. He actually fields a consistent offense and does really well defensively.
Whitt is a top 20 coach but I feel Petersen is a top 10. Whitt has dropped the ball twice when the south has fallen into his lap. We are waiting again until 2018 when he will eventually field an offense worth a damn.

EagleMountainUteParticipant
2006 Boise st AT Utah 36-3 thrashing.
2010 Vegas bowl 26-3 Boise st won.
2015 Utah at Washington 34-23 Win. I really liked that 2015 team so much talent.
2016 31-24 Valient effort at home but yes had a chance like so many Whittingham games the past three years. Inability to field a consistent offense. Everybody forgets the series prior to the punt that sealed the win.
2017. We shall see.
-
UtahParticipant
Let’s be fair to Whitt on the two MWC games. Petersen has his best QB ever and Whitt has backups.
To say Petersen has Whitt’s number is a little disingenuous. Let’s see how Petersen would do with a backup QB vs Brian Johnson.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Whitt has injuries or back ups or recruiting or any amount of excuses you want to put on him. I am not saying he is the absolute worst coach in football. He is a great coach top 20 that can’t field an offense. Don’t sugar coat it. You can use those same excuses this season.
-
UtahParticipant
What does any of that have to do with his record vs Petersen?
If you put it all on Whitt without looking at the big picture…well, it’s not accurate or smart.
Coaching is probably more important in football than any other sport. That being said, talent still trumps all.
And if you can’t see the difference between backup Terrance Cain and Moore…then I can’t help you nor can we have an intelligent conversation.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Scoreboard trumps all man. Could BYU fan with Sitake go we are so close to being 2-0 against Utah. Failed two point conversion, or they figure out that Mangum stinks before the game. What ifs don’t matter scoreboard is all that matters.
If Whitt wanted to win he should have drove down the field when it was 24 all and put Washington to bed in 2016.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Speaking of I finaly remembered the fail mary that Troy Williams had last year. It was against Washington where he threw it into the NEZ stands not even giving his guys a shot. Against Wazzu he underthrows it. Random musing.
-
ladyinredParticipant
Also random amusing stat, Huntley’s completion % last game? 53%.

God, that 36-3 Boise St game was awful. One of my first Utah games ever and we got CRUSHED. It was the TCU game before the TCU game.
I still remember the sliver of the visitors section shouting loser than all of RES. It was awful.
On the flip side, I did get a new Motorola razr that day, which was awesome at the time.

EagleMountainUteParticipant
Three blocks in the back? Man zoobish. Love ya man but Utah loss last year all the what ifs and everything don’t make me feel any better about it.
-
UtahParticipant
Dude. You missed the point. The point is this:
Petersen doesn’t have Whitt’s number. It took a bad call that the tv announcers talked about for Petersen to beat Whitt in PAC-12 play.
Thats called pretty even at worst.
Ive already addressed the Boise St games.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I already talked about his accomplishments. Dude is a great coach top ten and wouldn’t be suprised if he replaces Helton in like two years.
-
UtahParticipant
Your post is a mess and I have no clue what you are trying to say.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Petersen is a better coach than Whitt. Petersen will go to USC(2 years) and win a National Title.
-
UtahParticipant
You just proved my point man.
Why would Petersen go to USC?
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
How many schools realistically give you an opportunity to win MULTIPLE titles?? Alabama is on that list so is USC. Have and the have nots. Washington gives you that shot every few years. USC you have everything going your way there.
-
UtahParticipant
Which means you agree with the point I’ve been making this whole thread. Good to see we are on the same page.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Your entire point of this thread is dismissing anything Petersen has ever accomplished. If Whitt won with 3 blocks in the back and his “best QB ever” against backups you wouldn’t care. You can asterisks wins as much as losses to fit your paradigm.
For instance 2017 season does Utah make it to five wins without getting Arizona early? Roderick clearly gets a handicap for this season because Tate was out for Utah.
Edit:I mean Rich Rod came out as Roderick for some reason.
