But, I have to give Grimes credit with his play calling. He has some innovative plays in his book. The shuffle pass that ended up as a TD was perfectly timed and was well executed. There were a number of other plays that I thought were well planned. They learned early they could not run as effectively as they have been doing, they adjusted. I think he is a good offensive coordinator.
I think BYU’s defense is vulnerable. However, outside of BSU, they do not have any other team on their schedule with a decent offense.

Yep, the play calling by Grimes was pretty excellent. I felt like Houston went too conservative in the 4th which was really frustrating.
While I still don’t know if BYU is a true top 15 team, I will say that Zach Wilson is a top 10 QB. And before anyone starts giving me the ” who has he beaten?” speech, I’m basing my opinion on actually watching him play through 5 games. His decision making is great and he consistently places the ball exactly where it needs to be. It really makes the Jack Tuttle situation more infuriating.

I have no problem with your take on Wilson. But you really need to get over Tuttle.

I’ll admit he’s having a good season. I’ll base my judgements on him when he has to deal with some pressure. We saw the last two years how he would make mistakes when he didn’t 5-7 seconds in the pocket, evidenced by his pick sixes he loves to throw. He has a good O line who’s been matched up against bad to horrible D lines, including last night.
His numbers the last two games have been good, definitely not heisman worthy given the level of competition.
FWIW Wilson is the second best QB in the state at best. Maybe even third or fourth.

Which local QB’s would you put in front of him?

Shelley rising and Bentley are all contenders to be better than him.

Central Coast UteParticipant
Bentley for sure evidenced by his superior play against superior competition. Bentely can make more than two reads under pressure, unlike Wilson. Rising has more talent but the jury is still out. Shelley is 1-0 against Wilson, not sure if I’d put him above Wilson yet, but Shelley will play a harder schedule top to bottom than Wilson and will likely face more pressure.

Wilson has an eight ranked QBR playing the softest schedule among the top 10. I’m going to hold off till the end of the year to see where he ranks.

Wilson has played very poor competition. We were blamed of having a weak Power 5 schedule. I looked at what Tyler Huntley did against 5 power 5 teams I thought were poor teams.

I think I can agree that we should hold off before calling him a great QB that is better than any of Utah’s current options.
