Not necessarily. It could be a conglomeration of things. But the message is it’s on the players.

That’s silly reasoning.  However, I think you do both.  Fire Arod and bench T Will.  He somehow has become a head case and thinks way too much instead of just playing.

How is that silly reasoning? You think the playcalling is fine you can’t go with TWilliams if that is the case. Below 80% conversion in the redzone is pathetic.  They were at the half yard line and it took them a million plays to get in.  BACK TO BACK QB DRAW PLAYS TO THE RIGHT HASH! First one TWilliams fumbles it and so they run it again.  

HOT READ CAN I GET A HOT READ!! The Indiana blitzes were SOOOOO obvious all night.  We saw one slant all night to Singleton who is on offense again.  You threw Huntley in there for redzone offense because TWilliams is the reason.  It isn’t the playcalling(when it clearly is) because you are telling Williams you can’t score in the redzone.

I didn’t mean to be insulting.  It’s just there are a 100 things that can and do happen on every play.  One missed block, a fumble, a tipped pass can all effect a play.  Inefficiency in the red zone doesn’t just boil down to the coaches called play or the QB’s ability to execute it.  That’s why I felt it was silly.  

As I stated, I would fire Arod and bench Troy.  So I agree with your sentiment, but think the blanket statement is too simple.

Well it is a WHAT IF scenario.  I believe if you retain the offensive coaching staff you can’t continue with Troy Williams in this fashion.  Yes many things go wrong but they took Troy Williams out of the redzone and placed Huntley in there.  Basically showing no confidence in your Captain.  Additionally it has to be the play calling because I was screaming the first half they need to start pulling the guards.  They do that in the first half and it somehow works eventually?

I think Troy was hurt and they didn’t want to aggravate the injury at the end.

That first scamper he had it looked pretty good to me. He is holding himself back or the coaches are.  His passes were really overthrown a lot this game to.

I think this is all ARod’s coaching and the inability of our offense to build up QB’s over a season or during a game. Good offenses get thier QB’s into the flow of the game early and build on their throws. Kyle plays conserative until behind and then asks the throwing game to turn it on like a light switch.

Troy Williams performance had little to do with coaching.  He holds the ball way too long which makes him predictable.  He has a low game IQ.  He can’t improvise.  I think he will be serious challenged for the starting position next year, through they need to out Huntley on PEDs to bulk him up.

They need a QB coach and it doesn’t look like any are left worth hiring.  Thats what you get for waiting until after signing day to make your mind up.  I would support Chris Hill in going behind his back on this and just hiring a guy.

He started the season much more decisive, but turn over prone. By the end of the season he cut the turnover down, but became a head case. Pretty much the same thing as Travis Wilson. It has Roderick written all over it. Troy has some great numbers based on his play before coming to Utah, so it is clear with some good coaching he has talent. ARod is not a good coach. Logic would dictate that you fire ARod because of this. Problem is that Witt won’t use logic in his staff moves. Arods redzone Offense sucks a bag full of … loli pops, and he still gets cash his pay check. A player doesn’t execute … your on the bench now Troy as soon as we cross the 20. Kyle does so many things well, but in this area he comes across as a huge hypocrite. He can preach about players executing all he wants, but players have come and gone yet we still can’t execute on offense.

BUT Travis Wilson was around 96% in the redzone last season with ARod.  The blame is clear it is Troy Williams.

A big part of our redzone woes have come from Kyle running it between the tackles like a broken record. Opponents lined up 9 guys in the box knowing what was coming. It was true of our 4th down play calling as well. We kicked USC ass by running up the gut, so by God that was what we did almost everytime afterwards. So no, the blame is not clearly just Troy due to some very bad play calling as well.

I agree it is playcalling but that is why my original statement stands.  If you retain Arod or Harding you can’t move forward with Troy Williams.

I checked and Utah had a a Red Zone Success Rate of 91% in 2015 vs a 76% Success rate in 2016. Granted that just measures any score in the Red Zone and we had many notable 4th down and fail vs kick the FG this year, whereas last few years we would kick the FG. Let us not forget the disastrous 3rd and 4th and goal fails against UCLA last year.

All that said, Troy Williams is not the answer. He holds the ball way too long. Just not decisive enough. IU saw that on game Film and schemed for it. Troy never adjusted with quick short passes to defeat what IU was throwing at him.

I am convinced that Petersen knew what he had in Troy and pushed him out. Whitt’s staff foamed all over Troy Williams because they don’t know any better. Petersen has a way better eye for QBs.

Did you see Indiana blitzing? I could sure see it and I think Troy Williams did to. My problem is that the coaching staff didn’t adjust it at all. Williams isn’t allowed to audible. He gets up and can’t throw a hot read or anything. Watch the game again if you must but it is obvious it is play calling. I think Williams has the abilities to be good enough. You have to let him run things. We didn’t see a quick slant route until the fourth quarter. They kept trying to do play action on blitzes.

Yeah I saw IU blitzing and the coaches/Troy Williams never adjusted. They needed to get the ball out quickly on short passes over the middle.
