but a salary cap like structure must be implemented. You cannot just have benefits based solely on school resources. there has to be a standard and regulations set across the sport, and some sort of penalty involved for teams exceeding the cap. the competitive balance in the sport is already obliterated, but that doesnt mean it could not get worse. and it likely will if this system isnt regulated
If you implement a salary cap schools will just use bag men (like they do now) to get around it. Honestly it’s a pretty crappy situation. Either keep it as is, which is probably illegal, but probably more fair for all programs, or, make it open season, which will make things right for the players but will also increase the parity problem in CFB. It is a lose lose, candidly.
I hear what you’re saying, but if you have a salary cap, you’ll just have the same problem you have now – the only difference will be where the bar is set.
Or think of it this way: There’s already a salary cap in college athletics, it’s just that the cap is set at zero.
Who will police schools to make sure they’re staying below the cap? And what will dishonest programs do to try to get around the cap?
