Yes it’s early but who impacts on the field this fall from the class that became official today?
I can see linebackers Tufaga and Calvert, Stewart at safety (perhaps even Bishop given the depth and mission situation, Curry and Pledger at Running back and Brewer at Quarterback – although I’m hoping Rising earns the position.
Parks sure looks like he has the size to play as a freshman but I hope the room is so good and deep that he redshirts. I think we’ll have three terrific runners in Bernard, Curry and Pledger. My money’s on Pledger to earn the most reps.
Anyway, those are my thoughts of pure speculation. What a terrific day for the U. Regardless of who gets on the field this fall, the level of competitiveness continues to rise out on the practice field and in the weight room.

Don’t be surprised if Bernard comes out as the starter. Calvert will likely step into Fotu’s role as he’s going on a mission. Not sure why we would see Stewart at safety, we have established players in Hubert and Davis and some decent depth, I don’t know very much about Stewart, and he’s one of the lowest rated players in the class (but so was Devin Lloyd) so I don’t know if he makes immediate impact unless he’s a real diamond in the rough, but our coaching staff is great at finding those especially at defensive back.

It would be great if Makai Cope made a surprise impact to our WR Corp. Not counting on it but would welcome a diamond in the rough addition when it comes to WRs

I honestly think he could be one of the big surprises. I look at his film, and I see something special.

I hope it is someone at the QB position. I don’t want a battle honestly. I just want a confident “this is our guy.” No sharing reps at all. Who that will be? I have no idea I have high hopes for Jackson.

I will be totally floored if brewer isn’t the guy. Not saying that’s good or bad.

I think you’re probably right. IMO, ideally our QB1 will be with us for the next 3 years (aka Rising or Jackson). But I realize you have to go with whoever gives us the best chance to win right now. Likely that’s Brewer…in my dream world, that’s Jackson because I think he’s a freak athlete with the most upside. But whoever it is…may the best QB1 clearly win the job and lead us in 2021!

Have you looked at Brewer’s stats? Low 60’s in completion rate and TD to int ratio is between 2/3 to 1. His stats look alot like Bentley’s did at SC and against worse competition, not compelling at all. I would hope Rising could at least produce on this level and would offer a higher ceiling.

Sorry for double post

I’m not excited at all about another 1 and done grad transfer. I’m just going off of what I’ve pieced together on here from OnlyU’s comments and listening to Whit’s comments about Brewer the other day on the Pac 12 Network with Yogi Roth. It sounds like Brewer is the likely front runner, given Rising’s injury. But I’d much prefer to see Rising come back healthy and win back his starting job. But as mentioned before, none of our QB’s get me as excited as JQJ. He reminds of Vince Young or Cam Newton…an unbelievable athlete who has the ability to take over a game in order to get the win.

I’ll have to check out that interview. My fanboy read on the situation is Brewer is insurance in case Rising doesn’t fully recover in time. I’m hyped for JQJ as well. Vince Young type QB and playmaker…yes, please.

Don’t read too much into Whitt’s comments. Rising will not take reps in the spring. Looks like JQJ won’t be here until summer. That leaves Brewer and Costelli here for spring. I would think the immediate need is to get ready for next year and for that, I would expect the more experienced Brewer to start with the most reps. As we have seen before, if Costelli shows more promise for next season, he will soon have the most reps. He just needs to go take them. Whoever becomes QB1 will have to win the derby in spring, then in fall a reset will start again with the best from spring as QB1. But keeping QB1 will be as hard as taking QB1. Rising and JQJ will have every chance to upset the lineup. I like where we are headed and will be happy with the winner from the group. If we must go to QB2, I like our next options better than last year’s option, which was really only one. JQJ is unique in that I expect him to have a significant role even if he is not QB1.

I was oblivious to Jackson’s arrival. I would say Rising has the edge then.

Before the season, I pointed out Bentley’s high int ratio and got some grief for it.
Our history with QBs keeps me from getting excited until I see results on the field.

Huntley didn’t produce results?
FWIW, I felt identically regarding Bentley….I was pleased when Rising beat him out….Shame we didn’t get to see him guide us last year….We most likely go undefeated w/him @ the helm.
