I brought this subject up at the end of the year last year. Is there anything that the coaches are doing or should be doing to mitigate the problem. Is it the field turf, lack of proper conditioning, or something I’m not seeing? Any other things I’m not seeing. I know injuries are a part of the game, but to the extent of the last two or three years? Are the injuries more prevalent at home than on the road?
I don’t know, I’d like to hear some comments. Thanks

Whitt mentioned in one of his press conferences the that they changed some things to reduce physicality of spring and fall camps, which reduced soft tissue injuries by 75%.

He can’t explain why they have more injuries this year though.

Fixing the out of Fall camp injury problem would be a good start.

This may be something it may be nothing but byu recently hired a guy as their strength coach that Kyle would have his guys use in the past. Obviously since he was hired by the y Kyle hasn’t used him, wonder what he did with players that haven’t been done since he got a full time college gig.

A strength trainer I know who used to be a trainer in CFB told me his theory is that the players aren’t taking care of themselves outside of practice and times with the team.

It would not surprise me. Somebody on here posted a few weeks back when the injury subject came up that a former player(I don’t recall which off the top of my head) said that he believed the players on the team weren’t doing things like they had done in the past like yoga to improve their flexibility and prevent injury. If true, that’s unfortunate. I think it can be all of the above. Playing surface, strength and conditioning, practice being too physical, etc. I don’t have an answer.

It was Josh Nurse… and I totally believe it. Obviously not all injuries but I could see lots of minor persistent injuries being at the fault of the players.

I heard from a former coach that the strength coach is to old school and doesn’t use flexibility training enough.

            I believe it.

It is the same basic program for the last 20 years built around old school power lifting.

A former player told me that he remembers tweaking a hamstring and still being expected to do full range heavy squats and sprints.

I have sometimes wondered if NIL has made players a little lazy. Since they are getting paid they don’t have the hunger to do all the little things outside of practice like mobility or flexibility work. I am old and know that is good for me and I don’t do it as often as I should.
