ASU was down by one point, when they went on to score a TD to go ahead 5 with 4 minutes left. Instead of going for 2 to go up 7, they went for 1 to go up 6. There were over 1000 yards of offense in this game. WVU predictably marched right down the field, and scored a td to go back up a point. ASU lost by that point.
The line was ASU +2, when Graham decided to kick the field goal, he essentially guaranteed ASU would either lose by 1, or win by 6, and thus essentially guaranteeing a cover of the +2 spread. If he goes for two, and they get it, he leaves the spread up to a coin flip overtime. I dont usually dont jump to the conspiracy theory, but this decision was so remarkably numb that I just cant seem to fathom that level of absent mindedness from a head coach. Even Todd Graham.
