Is it me or is this whole Nacua announcement a little “Jake Heaps” esque?

He is a fantastic talent who will probably be good wherever he goes. The drama with the KSL announcement just rubs me wrong. And if the choice isnt Utah, it comes off as a huge slap in the face. That said, he would be a huge win for Whit

Agreed. But utah needs kids like this. Receivers. We have underperformed for so long. It’s the one area of the team that we do not have the horses. This year could change just with him and jones. It’s a big deal.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Will he travel by car, plane, train, horseback or Alpaca to Washington??
-
ironman1315Participant
A slap in the face? Really?
-
Brichaute49Participant
Personally at this point I don’t give 2 hoots about where he goes. This whole charade has gotten totally out of hand. It’s totally prima donnaish and no one is that worth it. Not taking anything away from his abilities as a player but c’mon.
-
RiseasUtesParticipant
He is 17 or 18 and getting more attention than he ever had, let him enjoy it. None of us have to tune in or pay attention to, but these kids get one chance to do this so I really don’t see the harm. It probably is a bit much, but I really can’t blame him for taking advantage of the opportunity.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
You keep defending it but honestly look at how many kids do what he is doing? It is abnormal just for that alone. Normal thing is sign and send your LOI in. Move on and earn your spot and focus on playing football.
-
RiseasUtesParticipant
Oh, he is definitely milking it and I find it to be a bad look, I’m just not all that worried about how a kid wants to deal with his commitment. I mean Lebron did at like 26 years old so I can’t be upset at a teen for doing it.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I am not saying it is a pattern BUT this could continue on in his career. Just saying I hope he checks himself.

Here’s the big difference in my mind:
Nacua isn’t calling a special press conference at a restaurant in the middle of the afternoon while getting the word out to fans of the school he is selecting to come attend the event. Heaps’ announcement was all about him, how great he was, and how much success he was going to have in college.
Nacua is going on a regularly scheduled sports news show, most likely at the invitation of the TV station, to announce a decision he seemingly struggled to make before signing day.

Charlie FoxtrotParticipant
But if he is going to an out of state school, why do the viewers of Sports Beat Sunday a majority of whom are either U or Y fans care? Good luck we wish you well and hope the best for you personally, but if your not going to a Utah school then we really don’t care where you end up.
-
Red DawnParticipant
Exactly
-
UteThunderParticipant
What if he isn’t going to an out of state school?
And he is still a local kid, (number 1 recruit in the state?) which means people (Ute and Cougar fans included) are interested in where he is going to go. Personally, I only care if he goes to Utah but people obviously care where the local kids go, even if it is out of state, because the news outlets take the time to write stories about them.
-
Charlie FoxtrotParticipant
If he is going to an instate school, then the Sports Beat Sunday appearance and announcement makes total sense. The viewers care, and KSL gets the exclusive story of the local blue chip player that decided to stay home.

I’m ready for the announcement and the discussion about it to end.

Agree…this is what reading and posting on this great Utah message board makes it so much fun! I can’t wait to see the responses if Puka does announce UW on SLC TV….not living in Utah and detached it even seems very odd and unnecessary if it’s not Utah or BYU.

-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
Maybe he’s going to shock the world and go play pitch & catch with Zach Wilson…
-
TrailgoatParticipant
Would not surprise me for a second.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
Why else KSL? This could be Kalani’s big coming out party on in-state recruits.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Takes his 100th ranked recruiting class to what? 90th?
-
UteThunderParticipant
Barf! I sure hope not.

If this wa want other position I wouldn’t care. But our best receiver is covey. Who is amazing. But come on. We’re going to the rose bowl with covey. Jones and puka could potentially takes us even higher than we expected just by being able to get open and catching the ball. The one are whit and staff and whiffed on over and over again. I mean covey and Samson were our best recovers last year both 2 star kids. Losing puka and jones not being eligible (we will see) is a big deal.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
It’s not just you.
