I did not pay much attention to McBride’s final years as  the head coach but I do remember the bad losses that got him fired.

Utah lost 6 in a row and some of the losses were to pretty bad teams. The team wasn’t untalented but underachieved. Fan support was dwindling.

Whit has a longer leash than Mac had in 2002.

Also, some of it was the way Mac lost. Blowing leads and choking. Vs AFA in 2002, Utah was up 26-6 and ended up losing 26-30.

I remember that Air Force game vividly. After AF scored the go ahead touchdown, one of the fans behind us screamed out in the most heartbroken way,  “I can’t take this anymore!” We still laugh about it to this day. I feel like that game sealed Mac’s fate.

Whittingham is staring down the barrel of four in a row and one was a blowout. Utah is currently a -3 favorite @ Oregon but the Utes we’re a -10.5 over ASU @ RES. What’s the length of the leash if Utah loses to Oregon? Or better yet, finishes the season 1-4 or 2-3? How about 0-5 in which Utah would end the season on an 8-game losing streak?

A BCS buster, moved a team into P5, and have consistently whooped your rival…the leash is pretty damn long!

            As it should be.

            Hammer:

What a ridiculous comment. The fact is… YOU DON’T KNOW! Hilarious.

Beat your rival.  Gain leash.  Ask Tennessee. They should have beat Georgia twice in Butch’s term after losing leads late. Utah has beat TDS 7 times straight.  Has split wins of USC and UCLA of late.  Has beat every team in the conference since joining the league.  How doesn’t Whitt not deserves a long leash?  (And yeah, if you want to use Vols win record against Bama, well think about the fact Whitt out-coached Saban which Butch hasn’t been close to doing.)

I’m really not bothered by how you perceive my comments. I stand by my opinion.

IMO he’d have to miss a bowl again next year to feel any heat.

Your point is? This is and always has been a rebuilding year. MSU went from playoffs to missing a bowl game last year. It happens.

No. Whit is in a slight rebuild but it’s the most talent Utah has ever had on paper. He reached out to a QB guru who’s in his 1st year. Whit has the best QB recruit committed they have ever had in Jack Tuttle. Utah brought a 5 star WR on campus last week. Things are definitely being worked on and changing, whereas McBride was pretty stagnant.

Yup. I’d say we’d have to miss a bowl three years in a row before his seat heats up.

Any talk of replacing Whitt now is foolish.

Agree mostly. I think after three missed bowls in a row, his seat wouldn’t be hot, he would just be gone.
