Has anyone mentioned our Utes are playing St. Mary’s. 9PM on one of the ESPNs. GO UTES!!!!!
-
The Miami UteParticipant
It’s on ESPNU.
-
AZUTEParticipant
Smith’s 3rd year he has a veteran team. If he loses tonight he needs to be on the hotseat.
-
NarfUteParticipant
The refs aren’t helping us tonight but we are tied with 10s left in the half
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
I am listening to the call on 700 app. Feel like my Dad listening to Utes away games during the Archibald era.
-
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
That three may be the dagger. What a shot. 10-0 run.
-
NarfUteParticipant
We should win this but goddamn we need Exacte healthy and Smith to get a waiver. With those 2 pieces Craig has put together an NCAA tourny team
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Yikes I jinxed it. Ute basketball hates me.
-
WasatchRangerParticipant
When that announcer started talking about it being a nice Quad 1 win for the Utes with like 3 minutes to go I knew St. Mary’s was about to start making shots. Terrifying ending, good win.

We’re trying to gag a guaranteed win away here.
-
NarfUteParticipant
I’ll take a win in Moraga. Let’s beat the f**kin zoobs.
-
Tony (admin)Keymaster
Ok got it. Whew.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Great win for Utah. The Gaels are always hard to beat at their place. Nice to pick up a Quad 1 win on the road.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
A few things going wrong for Utah in that game but still getting the win. The defense to start the second really was the difference.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Almost unbelievably gave the game away in the last couple of minutes. Crazy how no lead is ever safe in basketball.
-
CharlieParticipant
Often a team that can shoot simply plays fast and loose at the end can make a run. Good win against a good coach in part of the building process.

Random ramblings
Felt getting Keita back made a big difference. I have more fun watching him as any player on the team.
Tough game for Branden who never seemed to get going.
Good stretch of free throw shooting in the middle of the second half (think we were 10/11 over about 5 minutes).
Gaels tried to steal the game at the end, but we kept our composure and held on. Nice to what may likely be a Quad 1 road game on our resume.
Weak of ESPN to have remote announcers.
I see that Hawaii, our opponent downtown on Thursday, is 5-0 but played the Gaels (and lost by 34 points) in an ‘exhibition’ game not counted in their record.

Maybe one reason Brandon didn’t get going was his shot selection. He stuck one turn around jumper early on and then it seemed like that is all the shots he was trying to hit the rest of the night. On one play in the second half, he back cut a gut, got the pass, then pulled up and shot a 12 foot jumper when he had a clear path to the basket! You are 7 feet tall!!! Act like it!!! Yes, that is what I yelled at my TV screen. I love the kid but if, at 7 feet tall, he is not being coached to take the ball to the hoop then he is getting horrible coaching.

I’m pretty sure he started the game 3 for 3 and pretty sure all 3 were that fadeaway shot. But yeah, after that not a great shooting night for Carlson.
I also thought Keita was really really active and playing great especially in the 2nd half and just all over the place on defense and rebounding.
-
RickParticipant
I thought Keita on the boards was huge in the second half. I am not against Brandon taking outside shots but when he has a clear path to the basket and he pulls up for a jumper his coach should maybe have a conversation with him about it. Bad decisions unchecked will only lead to more of them when they really count.
