What a back and forth game! Seemed like neither team was ever up by more than 5 or 6 points in the second half. Good to see the Utes keep their cool even when it seemed like Oregon couldn’t miss. Really fun to watch Deivon go to work and control the game, what an athlete.
We let it get closer than it should have been, but huge win for the Utes! Smith showed why we were excited to get him today. Still kind of a mess at points, but the team stepped up big. Weird calls, but that is just the nature of P12 refs. Proud of this team. Hoping we can use this to build some momentum and start getting wins on the road, too.
Deivon Smith is a triple double threat every game. Have to believe that he has been given the keys to the car and will be leading this team rest of season.
Agreed. Today was the first time we really saw him finishing his drives instead of penetrating and kicking. Loved seeing him step up. I think the rest of the team needs to move more to give him targets or clear the lane. What we saw from Deivon Smith today was VERY encouraging. I was really happy Ben Carlsen stepped up and knocked down some huge 3s for us, too.
Ben Carlson was the unsung hero of this game. He didn’t score s lot of points but those he did came at crucial times. He hit a couple of threes that stopped the bleeding just when it looked the Ducks were about to go on lengthy runs. Kudos to him.
Great win! Oregon looked really really good – the kind of team that can make noise in the tournament. By the time all is said and done, that’s going to be a win we can hang our hats on.
I’m just glad we won so I don’t have to go ballistic on that blocking call against Smith with 1:45 left in the game. That was one of the worst blocking calls I’ve ever seen.
That’s going to be a Quad 1 win for sure and totally concur on the Smith blocking call. If they showed it one more time on the scoreboard, I thought the crowd was going to rush the court to get at the refs.
