It would be awesome if Jayden Daniels come to Utah. BUT, we’ll be fine without him. We have Huntley for one more year, Shelley for 3, if you don’t get a 4 star guy this year that’s alright, we have a couple more years to get one. I think a lot of people expected Jayden Daniels to commit to Utah after Tuttle left, and that that was a possible reason for Tuttle leaving. He loved his visit here, but that’s not the only place he liked (ASU has quickly gained favor in his eyes). Don’t get your hearts set on Jayden Daniels, I think it’s very likely he goes elsewhere. Sure would love to have him here though.
He announced via Twitter that he will be committing on December 13th. Top 4 is now ASU, Cal, Utah, and UCLA. (His top 8 did NOT include Arizona State)

His mom apparently doesn’t like Utah. ASU is a compromise from what ive heard, im really bummed. The Cajon trio would have been so dope! I hope we can hold on to Jones now…
-
KiYi-UteParticipant
Most people seem convinced that Jones will follow Daniels wherever he goes.
I’m interested to see the coaches’ backup plan for QB.

Not sure where you are seeing that. He’s still pretty locked in on Utah. Could change, but if he was going to follow him he wouldn’t have committed 4 months ago. Besides they’ve said all along their recruitments are separate.

This whole discussion about his mom feels like the most cougarboard thread we’ve had. People acting convinced she doesn’t like Mormons. I wonder if reading these threads might help convince folks to avoid Utah more? Can we chill out?

I never said anything about his mom, I have no clue if that’s true or not and I honestly don’t even care. He wouldn’t go to ASU just because his mom didn’t want him to go to Utah, there’s more reasons for him going somewhere else than that.
-
StoneParticipant
Thank you! People need to r-e-l-a-x on the speculation (I heard his mom had a mixed up order at Cafe Rio and refuses to let her son go anywhere near the place). So much angst over an unsigned recruit. The repetition of speculative perceptions probably only perpetuate unwarranted perceptions.

This subject is intriguing to me.
Do the Mormon’s on this board realize that their church was segregated until well after the civil rights movement? In fact, African Americans couldn’t even hold the priesthood until 1978. They couldn’t play sports at BYU until 1979.
If you truly believe this wouldn’t play any factor in some African Americans decision on where to send their kids to school, you’re up in the night. When I found out that Jabari Parker had no clue about LDS history I wasn’t surprised at all. I guarantee that information is suppressed to inner city minorities getting missionary talks.
I find it disingenuous that you lds folks give thumbs down, when it’s a fact of your recent history. Don’t assume people aren’t aware. I just hope these minority families realize we have a diverse student body/facility at the U, and that Salt Lake is a diverse city.

the team, as I understand, is about 1/3 white 1/3 black 1/3 polynesian. Anyone who cannot see that is blind and is looking for an excuse. and I am refering to those who post, not those being recruited.
chill out, Lilburn

its entirely possible that Daniels decision to go elsewhere is Utah’s fault.
Two months ago, Huntley was playing, Tuttle announced his decision to transfer and Shelley was an afterthought. If I were Daniels I’d be thinking in 2019 I could back up Huntley and possibly get some PT as early as next year. Fast-forward to today and Shelley has proven he can play at this level and suddenly the future isnt as bright.
Conversely, ASU’s Wilkins is a SR. and the QB race looks wide open. Who knows what goes through the mind of a 17 year old (other than boobs)?
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Well I think it is boobs and ASU has plenty of those.
-
StoneParticipant
An excellent point. It is very reasonable to assume that the Huntley injury, which gave Shelley (a RS freshman) starting experience, will play into the decisions of QB recruits. Whit has shown that he is not afraid of replacing a returning starter (see Williams v. Huntley), but the question as to who is already at a position and how long they have left is a HUGE consideration for recruits (just ask Tuttle).
-
CrazyforuParticipant
If it is Utah’s fault that Shelley played well, and that scares away a potential recruit, so be it. I think ASU has 2 current freshman, also has 2 other committed QB recruits this year. I love what Shelley did this year, would be 100% good with him taking over for Tyler when the time comes. Depth behind those 2 should be the concern at this point.

Or it could be the Herm out recruited kwhitt..
Herm appears to be a very good salesmen.
-
W16UteParticipant
True and who wouldn’t want to play for that guy at the year he had… But in the end you can only have so many QBs that will play. Then likely some transfer away
-
Puget UteParticipant
EVERYBODY knows Herm because he was on ESPN for most of their lives. He is already a celebrity in their minds before they ever meet him. On top of that, he is a great dude in person.
-
EagleMountainUteParticipant
Wasn’t it a few years back Utah wanted some QB and ASU came late stole him and he never saw the field? Honestly don’t care either way. I want his wide receiver more than anything.
-
Puget UteParticipant
Last name started with an E, I think. Eubanks?
-
Utahute72Participant
It was Eubanks and we were trying to convince him to come, but he was also interested in ASU. Then ASU coach, Dennis Erickson, convinced him to come there, then went off on Kyle for lying about him not staying at ASU. Of course Erickson was fired the next year, Eubanks played only a handful of downs, then left the team.

If it’s boobs then ASU isn’t a bad choice. Can’t blame him either.

His mom seemed to enjoy the atmosphere at the game and everything surronding it. I figured we were in trouble when he tweeted, “Well that was different.” I’m not sure it has much to do with mormons, but I had the feeling it was more about the compositon of the fans in the stand.

Mormons never think the fault lies with Mormons. We “gentiles” know different. It’s Mormons.
