Vandy’s starter and backup QB both in transfer portal. Johnson will get his shot at competing for next year’s starting QB position, but on a team that went 2-10 this season. That’s a rough ride…

The Miami UteParticipant
Great school though and Nashville is a great city as well…maybe the light bulb turns on while he’s there. More likely is the probability he switches positions to something that can make better use of his skill set.

Larry BParticipant
Wasn’t one of the reasons he transferred was he didn’t want to switch positions?
-
The Miami UteParticipant
Absolutely Larry…but he’ll be hearing it from someone else, in a different environment and be a year older. Sometimes that’s what has to happen before it actually registers.

I would say something similar to JJ transferring from Texas, and he was more receptive to the idea the 2nd time.
-
The Miami UteParticipant
I agree. Eventually the player realizes that changing positions is the only way to get regular playing time. By the way, did you know that Jackson was the 5th ranked QB in the 2020 recruiting class? I just read a “The Athletic” article about QB recruits going back to 2020 and there he was at #5.

Im worried that he’s actually going to turn out to be a great QB considering how we completely bungled the QB situation this year.
-
//r00t4UtesParticipant
I’m not worried, and I absolutely hope he does ball out.
He seemed like a good kid who left for playing time, nothing wrong with that.
I do feel like if the expectations of this season weren’t so high that he would’ve had a more fair shot to prove himself and learn/play through his mistakes.

JumpmasteruteParticipant
Vandy’s Oline won’t be able to protect him from a SEC D, so he better get it done during non conference games.

Honestly good for him. If he wants to start right away against legit talent then this is the “ideal” spot. It’s going to be tough but he is also going to get one heck of an education.

Cool. Guess he will learn he isn’t a QB there also. Enjoy 1-11 life.

Fourth string QB transfers to SEC to compete for starting job!!! Look how awesome we are!!! /s
lol.
Good luck to him. Awesome school, awesome conference, I hope he balls out and proves us all wrong.

Happy for NJ. Great town, elite academic school. Greta move for NJ especially if he’s getting a scholarship and some NIL/pay to play. Fresh start considering the QB drama that went down at Utah with Rising’s mysterious injury status. New OC Tim Beck has a solid background of developing QBs, which he’s going to need. NJ fits Becks offensive.
