Have we heard from @onlyU since Guy Holliday was dismissed? Could there be a correlation?
-
UteThunderParticipant
I remember him posting a few times in the days immediately following his dismissal, but can’t recall anything else since. Seriously doubt there is a correlation, other than possibly Whit has clamped down on any possible leaks or insider information making it out of the program since Holladay was let go.
-
mfaulk80Participant
I looked at this awhile back, and he posted shortly after it all happened….but I don’t think he had since that time. His last post was about Holliday, so it seemed like there wasn’t a correlation at the time, but it’s obviously very suspicious now.
-
radioUteParticipant
I hate to burst everyone’s bubble but OnlyU is not a football insider.
-
CrazyforuParticipant
Really? He’s been pretty spot on with a bunch of insight. Seems to have eyes and ears inside the building.
-
Dwight89Participant
Yeah I’d like to hear more about why you think he isn’t a football insider.
-
DallasParticipant
Call him what you will, but his track record shows he knows more than most.
-
radioUteParticipant
I’m aware that he hangs around some folks close to the program and picks things up here and there, but there are people here who think he is actually on the staff or in practices, etc. and it bothers me a little that he does nothing to dissuade that impression. In fact, he kind of plays it up.
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
He’s mentioned many things before they hit the news. He knows things before the rest of us. Whatever he is, his information has proven legit many times over. So your opinion, or knowledge is really irrelevant.
-
radioUteParticipant
Carry on then.
-
-
StoneParticipant
He has said before that he is not on staff, just knows people in the program and has access. I have not been given the impression that he is trying to play anything up. I think he is great, has good insight, and has been very fair.
-
Central Coast UteParticipant
I have seen him day exactly what you are saying. His own words were that he is not on staff, he only knows people who are in the know.

-
SunspotParticipant
I specifically remember a post a year or so ago where he explicitly stated that he was neither on staff nor at practices. Rather, he said he was just a guy who happens to know some people and picks stuff up here and there. At the time, I got the impression based on responses to his post that no one on here believed him.
-
ironman1315Participant
It’s because he’s really Whitt. He just refuses to admit it.
-
PlainsUteParticipant
LoL.
-
-
radioUteParticipant
Yes, no one believed him because he carefully crafts his posts to imply that he is involved, going beyond the typical use of “we” that the common fan uses when discussing “their” team. But I’m done on this topic. I’m sure he will continue to share here what he picks up from others, and it will be appropriately valued.
Go Utes.
-
-
AnonymousParticipant
No, there isn’t a correlation. If you want to hear from him regularly, you will have to pay monthly.
-
mfaulk80Participant
I know he’s on 247 because Bartle has mentioned it, but I haven’t figured out who he is. I assume that’s the site you’re referencing…

Central Coast UteParticipant
I pay yearly. Can I get a DM?

So, he is in the Portal now?

For what it’s worth he’s always seemed to be very credible.

I am sure if a guy (or gal) is really close friends with someone on the staff they can occassionally get a field VIP pass.
-
OnlyuParticipant
Wow…a thread dedicated to whether or not I’m on staff. Ridiculous. I’ve said it multiple times but I’ll say it again. I am not a coach at the U. That said, I have been to practices when no one, including media is allowed, I have been on the sidelines for multiple games, I do have personal relationships with coaches and players and I love Utah football.
I would say over the course of 4-5 years I’ve been wrong maybe a couple of times…maybe. I will always put the program first and if there is info that could be considered detrimental I won’t share it. I am on 247 (since before the last BYU game) but don’t share a ton there. Rather I pass info along to the mods to do with what they choose. I love the program…I attend in person between 8-10 games a year typically.
I came on to post the other day but was kind of bummed with some of the reaction to Brewer. People bitching about Bentley and the expectations that came with him as if it were the same situation. He didn’t have a Spring with the guys and barely had a Summer. He lost the job to Rising in camp by the way and wasn’t supposed to be the starter. It was clear that Rising was the guy.
Brewer threw for like 10,000 yards in the big 12, started like 40 games in a P5 conference and was right next to Tyler with his team in the top 10 the final week or two that season but some act like he is a retread. QB play is key but so are the surrounding pieces…It’s clear he is the guy today and it will be a battle if Rising is fully healthy in the Fall. By far the best QB room we’ve ever had when camp opens in the Fall…by far.
Vele…yeah you’ve heard it before, has the best ball skills on the team IMO and will be a guy provided he’s healthy. We’ll bring in a few guys (one has already been locked up for the most part that you’ll be happy with but not here about for a while). You know about Covey and Enis and the tight ends. I’m very bullish on the O-line. Another source of angst on the board. We have 3 guys (min) that will play on Sunday’s on this roster up front. I won’t be wrong on that one either. The RB room is in great shape and Ricky makes that even better. DL looks great, DB’s look great and the backers are deep and talented to compliment the Beast in Lloyd.
We will be in the mix the next 4-5 years…have some chances to be special if things go our way and we stay healthy.
Other than that call your Crimson Club rep (assuming you put your money where your mouths are) and buy some hoops tickets. Let’s get those guys back to where we’re used to them being.

ironman1315Participant
Thanks Whitt. 😂

UTE98Participant
Jamie or Melissa?
Maybe Tyler? Or Kylie?
Melissa was my daughters favorite. They knew King Louie, Melissa and that was about it back then.

<span style=”color: #333333;font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;text-align: justify;background-color: #fcfcfc”>^ I’m surprised this isn’t brought up more. Bentley obviously didn’t live up to expectations, but he was also thrust into a tough situation. I feel bad for the kid, and I hope he does great next year. I don’t think he has the talent for the next level, but from everything I’ve read, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him excel on the coaching end of things….</span>

Ute2Participant
Agreed
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Bentley for sure missed some but he also won us games with other stuff he brought to the table. (His escability and ability to keep a play alive was key to some victories last year). (I know he got yanked in the last game so don’t bring that up. Don’t change nothin)also, let’s not p**s of onlyu. He’s the wisest among us. I insinuated he was guy Holliday once, but only to coax him out for some football updates since it’d been awhile since we’d heard from him(which worked I might add). He’s been wrong only once that I can remember but then ended up being right on the issue like three days later…(latu)
Last thought. There are so many factors that go into success on a football field or are at play for whatever is going on. It’s a complicated game. I’ve noticed that most complainers on here or Twitter or wherever GROSSLY oversimplify when they complain amd it makes them look like dudes dripping nacho cheese on themselves in an 80s arm chair watching the game. Don’t be that guy.

Have always appreciated your insight and passion for all things Utah. Love your posts, keep them coming. 100% agreed on the silliness of Bentley/Brewer comparisons. Go Utes!!!!

Thanks sir!! Appreciate as always the info.

Thanks Onlyu. It is always great to read your insight into the other major sport here at the U. You are well appreciated.

Utah5410Participant
I literally said that same thing, people comparing Bentley to Brewer don’t understand football. We all assumed Bentley. But writhing COVID we know the story. I was amazed we got Brewer. Brewer is a beast. I expect him to beat Rising and win the job.
-
SandersParticipant
I’m glad OnlyU has the relationships he does with the Utes. We all have our fun buckets to fill and that’s a great one. The one thing about OnlyU I’m certain of is his age. He’s close to my age (50) because he hangs with some coaches and like me he still places two spaces after each period. Thanks OnlyU for all your reads.
-
BDParticipant
I am in my 50s also, and it is so hard to break the double space habit! 😆
-
UteCoopParticipant
OnlyU, U R the Donovan Mitchell of this board…we’re very fortunate to have you posting your knowledge here and appreciate when u do
post. Please keep it coming!!!Side note, just found out about the double space after the period. WTH…impossible to break that habit 🙂
-
UtesbyfiveParticipant
It’s a relic of learning to type on an actual typewriter. I still remember my type class. For whatever reason I had a very hard time with it, but am damn glad I took it. Touch typing is invaluable.
-
-
krindorParticipant
34 and also use the double space, despite never learning on a typewriter. Just the way I was taught and can’t break the habit.
-
-
CharlieParticipant
50? That doesn’t narrow it down. I learned to type in the mid 60s addressing envelopes for dad’s insurance business. Touch typing numbers was a skill no one else in data processing (IT) had the entire 70s. I never heard of one space after a period. He could be 80.
-
Tony (admin)Keymaster
I double space too. Some people get really bent out of shape about it. I don’t care about that but folks please don’t hit the return key a bunch of times at the end of your post and insert blank space!
-
-
-
concernedParticipant
Real men double space and use the Oxford comma.
