Check this out. I think you will love to see the restoration of the Elwha River up here. The hope is we will again begin to see the mammoth salmon runs within 7-15 years, that this river used to have until the dam was built 100+ yrs ago. This is a very exciting restoration, because the mouth of the river is very close to the open ocean, and it is a short/steep climb to the head. In many ways it is very similar to the Copper River in Alaska. There are stories of fishermen pulling dozens of >50# Chinook out of the river, one after the other, back in the day.

For fun, look at these Chinook just under the dam. They still returned to attempt to swim upstream, even after 100+ years of being blocked from access.
