ParticipantThe entire game. Constant whining at refs.
Nice to see a full house.

ParticipantHis post game was lame too. Basically blames the refs but then also says the classic “not why we lost” garbage. I guess it’d be hypocritical to criticize him for it haha.

ParticipantYeah he went full Harlan. Never go full Harlan!

ParticipantIt’s in the TDS culture to whine and blame. It’s always someone’s fault. “We didn’t really lose”.

KeymasterThey never lose. The only team capable beating them is themselves.

ParticipantThey complain about the fouls against them when they were trying to foul Lovering and Asur. 4-12 in overtime I wish they wouldn’t have called any fouls. The fouls benefited them yet they blame the loss on the refs.

ParticipantNo kidding. I re-watched the last 5 minutes of regulation and all of overtime. I tried to pay attention to the whistles and I’d love for their fans to call out any specific calls (or no calls) they disagree with. I really don’t see many, if any, questionable calls. They were playing highly aggressive defense whenever Lovering and/or Ausar were part of the action (had the ball, trying to rebound, setting a screen, etc.). They knew they could do that b/c those players are bad free throw shooters. And it paid off for them b/c it let BYU back in the game. I don’t know what they’re complaining about. The free throws were a disadvantage for us and an advantage for them. Every time we got fouled, I groaned and wished we had the option of taking the ball out of bounds. We had control of the game until those guys started going to the free throw line every possession.
The calls that Kevin Young brought up were A) Erickson getting fouled on his last drive (where he made both free throws) and B) Dawson Baker being “pushed” in the back by Gabe Madsen on his last drive to the hoop right after the Erickson free throws. I don’t agree w/ his take on A. The BYU defender jumped straight up but not w/ his arms straight up. His arms were clearly angled into Erickson’s body = a foul. On B, I can see where he’s coming from but I think it’s a debatable call and could go either way. I don’t think it’s super clear b/c A) Traore was also tangled up w/ Gabe on the screen (it looked like he was holding Gabe’s arm) and kind of dragging him along as he rolled to the basket (which may have caused Gabe’s momentum to bump into Dawson during the shot), B) there may be a little bit of a bump, but it’s not like there was an egregious amount of contact, and C) I think this is a lame call even though they call it in the NBA all the time (it reminds me of the Kobe Bryant shot where he would throw his arms into the defenders arms and get free throws for it). In my opinion, this should usually be a no call unless it’s egregious and I don’t think this one was egregious. That said, we would probably be frustrated about this no call if we were them too.
And don’t forget that the whistles didn’t go our way in the football game. BYU fans criticized all of us for complaining about that. Here they are as hypocrites complaining about this game. I personally don’t think the refs favored us in this game. We may have gotten the one 50/50 call to go our way at the end, but I don’t think it was fixed or anything like that. On the FT disparity: BYU had the technical foul, they intentionally fouled a bunch of times (evidenced by the majority of our FTs going to our two worst FT shooters), and obviously we dominated them in the paint w/ more aggressiveness (they shot more 3s, they couldn’t stop our big guys down low, etc.). End of story. The refs didn’t favor us in this game and the outcome wasn’t decided b/c of the refs. Utah beat BYU fair in square.

ParticipantI agree Holladay. They were being overly aggressive when our bigs had the ball. They were happy with a steal or a foul so to complain after the game is bush league. Always the hypocrites when it comes to the refs. After 1 good year in FB and NIL money to buy a good BB team their fans are back to being whiny a-holes again. It was nice not hearing it for over 10 years!! By the way Bakers shot was a wild shot he couldn’t make 1 out of 10 times not a layup.

ParticipantDon’t forget the OT for toss up. It was directly over the TDS player.

ParticipantThat’s just dumb, if you watch the game the foul count was virtually equal until the end of the game where the intentional fouling started. It was 26 to 17 PF, and Lawson & Ezra shot a combined 19 FT (making just 9). Then you had Hunters 4 FT and Dawes 2 (again making just half), so clearly the 1) the fouls went that way not because of the refs but because of the coaching decisions and 2) it didn’t f’ing help us as we shot under 50% from the line (at the end of the game, 53% overall) whereas we shot 57% from 2pt (Lawson was 57% and Ezra was 73%). So if those possessions ended up in shots rather than FTs, we would have won by a LOT more. So once again, the Zoobs can STFU. We may be bad, but they are worse (at least on our floor). We won, period.

Participantspeaking of little bitches, I have been watching Utah / byu games for 40 plus years, they have always had little B;s on the team, this year is d Hall and K Knell cry babies at best.
-
Jim Vanderhoof
ParticipantKnell was more worried about mocking the crowd than making his free throws. Hall was irritated because he couldn’t get the slivers out of his butt from sitting on the bench and watching the freshman take over his position.

ParticipantWith 5 seconds left, after a foul was called against Utah on the inbounds play before the ball was even thrown in, Knell stepped up to the line with the chance to give BYU the lead. Bricked the front end of the one-and-one. Can’t blame that on the guys in stripes.

ParticipantI’ve been watching Ute basketball since Arnie Ferron, Vern Gardner, Wat Misaka, Dick Smuin and Leon Watson played. Whining is part of the culture at tds. Incidentally, I started watching football at the University in Utah in 1947 when my brother was discharged from the navy after WWII.
