I know this is stretching for material to talk about, but I do find it interesting that the UTES are going into 2025 with Trey Coleman (soph) and Dillon Curtis (Fresh) as their kickers. Both are unproven at the college level. Cole Becker was money last year and this year he was good but inconsistent. I wonder if we will struggle there.
It’s hard to have faith in a kicker until they prove it in games.
Becker was supposed to fix the problems with FG and kickoffs, got hurt 4 games in, and both were a problem for two more seasons. Matt Gay didn’t win the job out of fall camp in 2017 and then made 30 of 34 after Chayden Johnston missed the first try of the season.
Becker was only 75% on FGs last year with a long of 48 yards. From what I’ve seen, Curtis can easily match that percentage and will likely beat it. He also has a much stronger leg than Becker. At a minimum, I expect our kicking game to be at least as good as last year, if not better.
Coleman and Curtis were both two of the best kickers coming out of their high school class. Curtis is arguably the #1 kicker in the class of 25. I think Coleman is going on a mission.
I would be more concerned about the punting situation.
