how in the world did Pepa gain weight this offseason? In 2022, he was 345 and Whitt said he needed to lose 20-30 pounds I believe. In 2023, he’s halfway there since he got to 330. Now he’s 340? He needed to lose another 10-15 pounds, not gain it back.

Self discipline….. I get that it’s not easy, but if you want to be truly successful, you have to put in more effort. Somebody on here recently was saying they wanted Jaylon Glover to slim down by 10 to 15 pounds and he too came in about where he was last year if not slightly heavier. You either love the game enough to make sacrifices you need in order to be successful, or you don’t.

I don’t understand it to be honest. When you have nutritionists and strength/conditioning coaches, and when you exercise a lot, it’s easy to lose weight and build muscle/speed. Not to mention that with his weight and level of activity (assuming he pushes himself in the offseason), his maintenance calories is probably 4000-4500 calories. It’s SIGNIFICANTLY easier to cut out 500 calories out of 4500 than it is to cut 500 out of 2000. I just can’t believe it tbh. I was able to go from 210 pounds at 5’8” to 175 in just 3.5 months while keeping probably 90% of my muscle and strength. And that’s with no nutritionists or coaches to not only make it easier to plan, but to keep me on track.

I guess people just don’t have the same willpower that both you and I do in that regard. I don’t know what to tell you other than I agree that it’s disappointing.

Pepa actually came into the program around 370 and is just naturally a big boy. The staff cut his bad weight but there’s only so low that you can go. And once you put back on good weight through diet and conditioning, you end up where he is now.

If you remember a couple of years ago, he could only manage about one play before needing to come off the field. I think he’s just one of those kids whose body type won’t allow them to maximize their talent. Someone with inside info can tell me if I’m wrong but it just feels like what we’ve seen this year is about the most we can hope for.
